Just being a bit picky here as everything was great; We chose to have breakfast in our room, which when arrived, you could see that it had been sitting for a while, eggs were over done etc, plus the items were short from what we ordered, i.e, no toast, no apple juice.

From arriving at the hotel to leaving, we were made to feel welcomed by all the staff. Truly professional team with a 5 star + attitude.

Room wasn’t as expected - bathroom very small. Room looked a little dated and paint / wallpaper needed attention. Fridge made noises every hour and woke us up several times during the night, as did the ceiling alarm that kept flashing. Paid a high price for trip - room could have been better. Still waiting for credit card to be updated - amount taken at checking in even though I have paid upfront for booking. Reception check in person was a little difficult to understand due to her accent and we didn’t hear everything she was saying a she spoke quietly also. Check in was quite slow! Was not told that mulled wine was only on weekend therefore we missed out. Thought breakfast would be in the bigger Garden restaurant- breakfast in Baba restaurant- very cramped with limited supply of food to choose from

Loved the shabby chic feel to the hotel. Enjoyed the social hour.

The spa was lovely but very busy. I'd book ahead for a treatment, I was lucky to get one spot left on the day I wanted.

Everything was just top-notch in this fabulous hotel. The staff in the hotel were so friendly and accommodating and Steve in particular deserves a special mention. They could not have done more for us! We left early for a trip to the Highlands one day and there were lovely little breakfast bags organised for us and left at reception. Our room was really spacious and had everything you'd need. Anything you might have forgotton is provided by the hotel - a lovely little touch. Bathroom and shower also so nice. The hotel lobby had lots of really nice spaces to hang out in and the bar had such a nice vibe. We ate in the Lebanese restaurant one night and it was a busy popular spot, and I could see why. If in Edinburgh again, I'd make it my business to stay here again and will also be recommending to my friends and family. Location is so central, on a street with lots of restaurants and pubs, a little christmas market and ice-rink, and just around the corner from Rose Street, which also has loads of food and drink options.

On arrival there was an error made taking payment from the wrong card which did cause me quite a lot of stress, but this was rectified by the next morning and I was compensated for this by manager Lilleth. I appreciated this as it had been a long day and me and my partner just wanted to enjoy Edinburgh without the hassle of going back and fourth to reception. We would come back to this hotel based on our experience being made better.

Beautiful hotel set in an ideal location for shopping and getting round Edinburgh. Stunning architecture and comfortable rooms. Close proximity to princess street and rose street with some lovely hidden gems. Not noisy at all, our room had a view of the castle. The decor and classic feel of the hotel was lovely, warm welcome from the staff which was nice. I can't comment on the food as we were out sightseeing everyday, but the place was idyllic for 3 nights.

One small suggestion at breakfast - having warm plates for the cooked breakfast would have been preferable, but the food quality and range was very good.

All the staff were very courteous, professional and effective. The food (breakfast and at Baba) was very good. Nice touch to have the 5-6pm social hour in the Baba bar.

The TV feels old fashioned compared to what you find in most other hotels. iPhones don't connect to the TV - only android and no smart capabilities with apps like Netflix, We found the noise of people coming in/out of their rooms disruptive as the doors slam. It would be great if a foam pad was added to the frame/soft closing doors.

Amazing location. The interior and restaurants are so beautiful. The staff service is first class, they really go the extra mile and provide attentive help when needed. Our room was modern and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Great heating in the room too. The spa was very relaxing too, modern facilities and very clean.

Parking is expensive and the arrivals at the hotel with a car is not great. It's a little disorganised. First of all the hotel does not look like a hotel from the outside so finding it is difficult. Also there are double yellow lines outside the hotel so it does not look like that is where you stop. The person sent it to meet us and park the car, helped somebody else inside the hotel so we were sitting on a double yellow line. The hotel staff need training especially the reception staff. We had an incident with a misunderstanding being on their side regarding checking out which left us with a not so good experience at the end. This is not a 5 star hotel in my experience.

Location of the hotel is good. Rooms are comfy.

Signage both inside and outside the building could be better. The nature of the building is complicated and it’s easy to become disoriented.

Location was brilliant although not so easy to identify at night on first visit because signage is subtle. This we understood was because the building is a ‘World Heritage Site’. Staff were absolutely brilliant - friendly, helpful and smiley! Rooms are comfortable and well appointed and good value given the prime location. Valet parking was helpful and well managed. Good buffet style breakfast but plenty of convenient cafes around if you’re looking for more modest fare.
