Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThere's an extra fee to rent the yukata, which I generally think of as being included, but I suppose they need to keep costs down and it's only ¥300, which is reasonable. The building is old, so it has its quirks. The bathtub in my bathroom was left in but refurnished to be permanently sealed with a shelf, which makes for a nice place to set things like dental or hair care supplies. Everything has a bit of a worn feel to it.
It's a no-frills type of ryokan in a fairly old building. I stayed here 10 years ago and was happy with the accommodations for the price, so I decided to book it again. You can tell the building is showing its wear, but the staff is friendly and the baths are very nice. The rooms are spacious and have Western beds as well as a tatami area with futons that can be pulled out if you want a more traditional place to sleep. This is also nice if you have more than two people wanting to stay. The view of the river is very nice and the general atmosphere of the area is quiet and relaxed.

MalaysiaI stayed for a night. I can't figure out why there was no hot water in the toilet.. since it was entering winter season there, the hot water was a need. U have to go to the onsen if u want to take a dip in hot water.
Old style hotel. I love the location as it is serene and peaceful far from city hustle and bustle and also the room's space. Quite big from any hotel i have stayed in Japan

SingaporeThe indoor onsen looks dirty to me, there are a lot of stain in the onsen. One important point, the temperature is extreme hot as compared to other onsen I went.
Location is great, there is a Lawson in walking distance. The tatami is very comfortable and room is quite big.

AustraliaThis is a very old Ryokan hotel, at least inside. Our room and the corridor on our floor (level 4) smells. The hotel, the facility and room are old, rundown. The room, bedding, floor and windows are substandard in terms of cleanliness in Japan. The room is cold even with aircon on at night. There is only a toilet but no bath or shower in the room.
The hotel staff was very helpful at welcoming us on arrival as well as during the stay. The location is good, right next to Kinugawa Onsen Fureai Bridge (ふれあい橋) and very close to the train station.

United KingdomI would have liked better washing facilities in the morning as I had to boil a kettle and wash myself at the handbasin but been a camper it wasn't too much of a hardship.
There were no meals but the provision of facilities, microwave etc were adequate, I loved the Japanese style room it was very comfortable, the onsen was very enjoyable just wished it opened earlier, the lady receptionist was very polite and kind, an old hotel but still lovely.

AustraliaOnsen closes at 9.30pm. Since i did a lot of hiking hours away, i often got back late and had no access to washing as the rooms have no shower or bath. The per-person price however is fantastic.
Very polite and friendly staff. Nice onsen. Close to convenience store and only a short walk to the train station. Good value. Kinugawaonsen is a beautiful town.

United KingdomIt was great value for money for budget travellers however it was very run down and dark in some areas of the hotel. In need of renovation and the rooms were a little dusty.
It had an onsen although it felt a bit eerie walking down at night in the dark rundown corridors. The staff greeted us with a smile although they didn't seem to appear very often.

JapanThe onsen is only open for use at night. I like to take a quick bath in the morning--it would have been nice if this was an option. Also, I thought I'd be able to see the river from my room but this is only possible on the higher floors. Before my next stay I would double check with staff about this detail.
The rooms were enormous! Six people could have comfortably stayed in the room I was in. With the sound of the river running just outside, I was able to sleep deeply.

JapanThe onsen temp was good, but the area could use a good cleaning. Some mainland guests didn't follow protocol for bathing. A clear sign in Chinese on bathing etiquette would be helpful.
Great location in Kinugawa. Nice view of river. Rooms were very spacious and reasonable. Relaxing space and good internet.

United StatesWe had a wonderful experience. Nothing could have been better. !!!!!!!
This is a Japanese style Inn (Ryokon) with tatamai flooring in the eating area which is low to the floor ( Japanese style). The two twin beds are also low to the floor again (Japanese style) with a wonderful Japanese blanket. The space was very large and easy to move around. The 150 Yen per person per day fee for the public bath was well worth it. It's very Asian in design a large soaking area ( maybe 12 feet by 25 feet ) of warm water with little stools to sit on to wash yourself after soaking. It also has an outdoor soaking area but I went in April and the nights were cool so I didn't use the outdoor area. I must mention that the public baths are gender specific and everyone baths in the nude. I went every night at about 8:30 pm and was the only bather. There is a stand-up shower also available. The other best part of this Ryokon is the price. we stayed 4 days in Kinugawa at only $56 per night for two adults. What a bargain in Japan!!!!! Prices may vary depending on the season you visit and during the week is better than the weekend as many japanese come for a weekend getaway. Bath hours are only from 4 pm to 9:45 pm in the evening. I would retiurn here again without a second thought.

United StatesThe bathroom that came with my room smelled, it stinks almost. I had to repress my nose and challenge myself each time I take a bathroom break…
I loved the front desk staffs, they were so nice and thoughtful, when I checked out, one of the male staffs gave me candies and snacks too! I also loved the traditional futon bedding, so comfortable and cute!

SingaporeThe hotel is old and tired looking, needs alot of renovation to improve facilities like hot water in bathroom for washup in the morning. Onsen is restricted from 4pm to 9:45pm which is also the place to take shower. Corridors walkway to rooms are not heated and smelled musty. The hotel had forewarned us before hand in email after we had booked.
Location ia about 8 minutes walk to Kinugawa Onsen station. The owner's daughter is the only person who can speak English. She is very helpful, friendly and courteous.
