Exceptional stay at a traditional Japanese ryokan. Friendly staff from the moment you step foot into the building. Warm and welcoming. Free shuttle pick up and drop off service. Rooms are SO SPACIOUS with private toilet/sink area. Shared shower in the onsen pool area. Onsen pool was so relaxing! Now the star of the show - the dinner and breakfast included in our stay. Sensational. Traditional Japanese meals with great explanations. They even adjusted our meal for no meat option. Blown away from the service. Would recommend this ryokan to everyone who is visiting Japan. A must stay! Thank you for the lovely picture we got to take home, we left with a smile :D

I liked everything. Sleeping on the floor on a genuine futon perhaps wasn’t my favourite part of the stay but this is purely because I suffer from back issues. I knew what I was expecting so I cannot really blame the hotel whatsoever.

This was just simply a fantastic experience. The staff were incredible, the food was amazing. An unforgettable life experience!

This was my first ryokan experience and it was absolutely wonderful!! The staff were very friendly and sweet, I felt right at home! They prepare your meals in advance so don't worry about eating out and make sure to eat all their delicious traditional food, I especially loved the local Hoba Miso! <3 The onsen was also very relaxing, it's nice that they switch onsens every night so you can experience both of them. The yukata provided felt very nice and lovely as well. Being right by the temples was a great surprise to explore and it's also just a few blocks away from the most charming streets of Takeyama! Would definitely stay again! :)

Very subjective, but beware that you will sleep in a futon. It can be too hard for some people.

I really loved everything about this place! The vibe, the staff were all very nice, the place looks really great. And the food of course, dinner and breakfast, both Japanese style, were just amazing! Both the taste, as well as the presentation.

Only some rooms had a fridge, so that was a little inconvenient. But you can ask for a key to a fridge located on the ground floor.

Amazing place and amazing food, wish I stayed longer. Would definitely recommend the onsen.

This place deserves every bit of its high rating. A stay at a traditional Japanese Ryokan that is overflowing with hospitality. Very friendly driver picked us up at the train station for a nice shuttle and small tour of the town on the way. Hospitality was prominent from the second we arrived. Everyone very nice and kind. Small hotel vibe was perfect. Rooms were traditional Japanese…basically a large room with a sitting table, floor chairs, and then the layout the sleeping pallets at night. We loved it. Opened the windows and slept great. We brought a young infant and, once again, the hotel couldn’t have been more accommodating. The employees were so friendly to both us and our child… Very welcoming and I could say heartwarming. The meals were fantastic. Dinner was amazing…I proclaimed it as the best meal I ever had. I stand by that days later in reflection. Delicious small plates just kept coming. Breakfast was great as well. Shared bath was very nice and perfect for our needs. Not a single complaint. If I ever make it back to Japan, I would make a special trip back just to stay here again.

The futons were a little thinner than we would have liked.

The food was delicious and plentiful. My husband has to eat gluten free, and they were the only place we stayed in Japan that not only understood the idea but worked really hard to accommodate him. The onsens were nice and the water was very hot. The location was close to many beautiful and interesting things to see in Takayama. We could easily walk there.

Unfortunately it was extremely bright in the morning as there's no real blinds. Combined with the fact that we could hear the neighbors quite a bit, it was impossible to sleep late in the morning.

We had a great time here. The staff were extremely nice, kind and helpful. The futon beds were comfortable, and the public baths were nice too. The dinner and breakfast were both such a amazing feast! Such an experience. They were even able to cater for my dietary requirements (vegetarian) quite well - it's obviously not what they're used to doing, but I felt like they put effort and thought into it and I really appreciated it - it made the stay much more enjoyable for me. I was originally told they wouldn't be able to omit fish stock, but luckily later on they told me they did leave it out. They even warned me that some of the fried food (such as potatoes) was fried in the same oil as fish / meat - so I at least felt informed about my options, and could skip on certain things if I chose to.

There was an umbrella stuck in the tree outside the window, ruined the view a little bit. It would be good to take it out for the next guests!

Staff were really friendly and went the extra mile, even to provide umbrellas at the train station and early breakfast.

The slippers are a bit tricky to wear for my big western feet 😀 It was quite a ride with big luggages until we reached the location 😂 its up the hill. I would recommend arranging shuttle pick-up in advance!

The vibe was authentic. The bed (futon) was not as uncomfortable as I expected it, actually very pleasent to sleep on. I am tall (182cm) and fit well. Also the electric heating pan for the feet was very nice. The room had a cute lantern-like night-light, was very romantic. The food was aaaamaaazing, the server explained everything in english. We were so full and satisfied! Wearing Yukata was very cool! Also they gave us a shuttle to the bus station (upon request before hand) after they stored our luggage after the checkout. We would definitely come back, one of the highlights of our trip.
