Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyPerfect place to decompress from the busy touristing activities for a couple of days. The hosts were very attentive and everything was great. Breakfast was included and declicious as well as a great experience. We also books dinner separately (about 60€ per person) for a unique treat and it didn‘t disappoint. The onsen was also great and not too busy.

United KingdomPlease provide an English explanation for washing before the onsen in the changing rooms and instructions when you check in. There were some people coming to the onsen and getting straight in without washing but there weren’t any instructions so maybe they just weren’t aware.
This is the perfect retreat hotel in the mountains. Old style Japanese ryokan with the friendliest staff. Food was amazing. The rooms are huge! And we had both western beds and futons! The outside onsen is such a delight and you can relax in it under the stars. It’s out of the way so a bit tricky to get to with public transport but that’s what we wanted for a trip to the mountains.

GermanyAt the beginning I feel like whole entry was too fast and not explained properly. It was visible that hotel has the best time in the past. Everything was in perfect condition but it looked like time stopped in 80's
Very comfy place. On-air onsen is amazing. It was one of the best we experienced in Japan. The best dinner ever. Also the breakfast was great. Full support from the hotel staff. Good English.

United KingdomCould not get coffee after 9am (checkout at 10) as lobby area was closed. Felt a bit strict.
Cute traditional place, nice food experience - traditional Japanese, nothing western. Very nice onsen, but nobody seems to be using so I enjoyed it all to myself :)

AustraliaNothing, loved our stay here!
Loved our stay here! Very quiet time of year, with not many people staying. Still, the staff were incredibly accomodating, all spoke fantastic English and the food (breakfast and dinner) were local and exceptional. Highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a relaxing and authentic Ryokan experience! The onsens were also delightful!

IsraelThere is no much to do in the area, and need to take a bus (2-3 times a day) to the nearest small onsen “city”. If you are using public transportation, I would recommend stay in Hirayu Onsen area.. from where there are multiple buses..
The dinner was very good! The onsen were nice. There was one lady that spoke English..

CanadaNot much bad to say. The rooms need a refresh but I personnally don't mind cause it is super clean and I like the "1989 post bubble" style. I saw that they are already working on refitting some rooms.
Absolutely endearing staff who add a lot of charm to this establishment. This ryokan is remote and that is the point, right there in the middle of the mountains. Original Edo structure of an old house, with well designed extentions and typical ryokan rooms. I love it! Delicious japanese breakfast in private rooms. Next time we will try the Kaiseki. Beautifull onsen which however, has no view over the river nearby.

GermanyA bit outdated rooms.
Excellent staff, which is the main reason to stay here. Friendly, and they make you feel incredibly welcome. The food is the best I've eaten so far in Japan, and if you decide to stay here do take the dinner option! Highly recommended. Both the hotel and the dinner is worth the price

amazing food, best we've had on our trip! they accommodated me being a vegetarian. the entire place ist just really cool with an oldschool vibe, hard to describe. it's definitely on the old side, but we thought this added to the charm. really nice owner with good english, too, and we had a nice chat with a member of staff during dinner, which was charming!

SingaporeWe had a little problem locating the property as it was off the main street. The sign board at the turn off was in Japanese and not obvious. We missed it and had to ask for directions.
We booked a room with western beds and we were pleasantly surprised that it came with a tatami matted living room that can easily fit in 4 futons. Definitely a good choice for a family traveling together. It justified what we thought was a higher price we paid for the room. Perhaps because the property was built with wood, we thought it looked a little aged. But the excellent staff and service more than make up for it. They were friendly and warm. And we are happy to find that the owner is conversant in English.

The service is brillant! The dinner and breakfast are very authentic and delicious. You can take a relaxing bath in Furusato's own onsen which is very tastefully arranged. Our room felt like an appartment. Very close to a beautiful hiking trail.

CanadaNothing... Everything was way over the top !
Amazing bang for buck experience. The remote location is perfect to enjoy a quiet stay in the mountains. Our hosts were absolutely amazing, kind, speaking well English and of precious help. Our room was spacious and cosy, the beds were super confortable. The Onsen was amazing also. If you want to enjoy the complete ryokan experience, be sure to reserve the traditional meal before check-in as it's made on demand the same day with locals products (about 7000¥-8000¥ per person). It really worth it ! A complete Breakfast is included which is really a big + !

United StatesThis is not a negative review, but a suggestion, the coffee bar could be open later than 9 am.
We escaped the heat of Tokyo and in this summer weather felt this place was a restful respite from crowds and neon lights. Our room was spacious, while we slept the Azusa river lulled me to sleep. In the morning, onsen was nice if you aren’t use to sleeping on tatami mats. But, you are in nature, so why not sleep closer to ground. I am happy I did not book a “western style bed”. True, we were told there is not a lot to do around the area, but that obtains to those who are boring-find exhilarating and calming moments wherever you are. We spent three nights and enjoyed walking to the shrine in the back, sitting along the River, morning market, walking to unagi restaurant, hydrangeas and mossy gardens, and simply being grateful that this place existed for us to be a hospitable base with delicious breakfast and dinners, where you get a whole room by yourself during breakfast and dinner to enjoy local flavors of hoba miso, Hida beef, and ayu grilled fish near a warm hearth.

SingaporeEverything was phenomenal. Asuzi (I probably mangled the spelling) - the owners wife - runs an immaculate operation with a very small staff. Very hospitable and warm from our arrival to departure. The rooms were massive in size - literally suites - and just the right temperature on a cold April night. Also spotless - but that’s probably a given. The onsen was cozy and water just right. I guess it also helped that being a small place with only a few guests, it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. We were entirely alone for the whole time we were at the onsen, which made it feel like it was our private onsen. The breakfast was spectacular and Asuzi took a lot of trouble to explain to us all the many local dishes prepared fresh for us. All in all one of the best stays we have ever had anywhere. The only pity was we had planned for only 1 night here, when even a week would not be enough….!
