How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

If I have to say something I will mention that you have actually to get the train to get to Kyoto center (just one stop, only 5 minutes), but still if you want to stay out late you need to get a cab
great hotel, lots of facilities in the room, big room with a big bathroom (not so common in Japan), friendly staff, nice spa (women only)

Too many tour groups at breakfast. Lots of rich, rude European groups.

Would have loved milk in the fridge or uht milk with coffee. A guest laundry would be useful.
Location is superb. Super clean. Incredible beds and the coffee provided was delicious! Very quiet considering it's location next to the station.

One of the front desk staffs (seemingly senior male staff) showed his unpleasant attitude to us when we asked junior staff about directions towards subways a bit long time.
Hotel location is super convenient! Room is very clean and has quality amenities.

The immediate area around the hotel is indiferrent.
A very solid city hotel, at a great location when comes to connectivity with the rest of Kyoto since it is located on top of the station.

I think the most disappointing thing is that they don’t have a laundry room. You need to go outside to do your laundry. There is also a lack of electrical outlets (I think). The AC unit is also hotel-controlled, so you can’t control the temperature yourself, which is a bit of a letdown.
The location was perfect, with easy access to the station, convenience stores and a department store. The wide range of amenities we got in the room were amazing too!

Hotel is a bit further out, but super easy via train to get to. Wish the onsen was inclusive for tattoos.
Amazing beds and pillows most comfortable in Japan. Coffee machine in room was nice. Good space.

This hotel is in Yamashina which is a train stop away from the Kyoto area you want to visit. So you do need to navigate getting on a train or longer Taxi ride to get to the Kyoto shrines and tourist areas. In hotel Onsen was only for women only but I did need it on my trip any how.
I was looking for a hotel in Kyoto at a good price and this fit the bill. The staff at the desk had limited English but supper polite and we were able to communicate. Paper work and signs in English allowed things to go smoothly. Cool over the top honey you get directly from the beekeepers hive frame. Expecting some bees to be on my toast! I also choose this hotel since it had a choice for a large bed (being 6'5' sometimes you need this)

The location was amazing. You see the hotel as soon as you get off the train, its literally across the street. The room was spacious compared to others rooms with stayed in in Japan. My wife loved the spa. they had an amazing Japanese breakfast. We arrived early, they stored our luggage and when we checked in our luggage was already in the room. a much more local vibe, even though its only one stop from kyoto station, we didnt see many other westerners

The aircon didn’t work quite well for us. It was abit warm.
Good view. Very near the train station. Very accessible. The scent in the hotel is also very pleasant. Breakfast was good too.

I stayed one night at Kyoto Yamashina Hotel Sanraku. It was a great experience. The location is very good, 1 minute walk to station. The staff are friendly and helpful. I love the cleanliness, room layout (quite spacious), they even provide you with instant coffee machine. I really recommend any travelers to stay here if you come to Kyoto. Worth the money. I will definitely back to this hotel if I come to Kyoto again.

For me not a big deal since I knew beforehand but I suppose not having a public bath for men could be a downside.
Thought the service and small touches (complimentary beer) were very nice. Comfortable room and a delicious breakfast buffet.
