Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwedenIt’s a bit difficult to access & sometimes it’s difficult to make the bus schedule & the hotel schedules work together, but fortunately, the staff are very friendly & helpful.
Having a private onsen in the room is great, but I wasn’t expecting the food to be the true highlight of the experience! Both breakfast & dinner were superb, cooked with local ingredients using local recipes; Hoba Miso entering my top 10 of fav Japanese dishes.

Brazil"I cannot express how amazing my stay at the Hidaji hotel was. From the moment I entered, I was enveloped by an atmosphere of elegance, tradition and comfort. Every interaction with the team was warm and professional, and every detail of the room makes you feel the culture and tradition of this amazing country. The gastronomic experience was simply exceptional, with dishes that dazzled my taste buds. This stay has exceeded all my expectations and I can't wait to get back. Thank you for creating such a memorable and luxurious experience." PS: the thermal bath is extremely hot and relaxing!!!

United StatesIt was winter and there are no food choices for lunch around the area unless we take the bus all the way down to Takayama.
Beautiful area and wonderfully decorated. Quiet and comfortable. The dinner and breakfasts were amazing too. There are two semi private baths that you can use with nice views.

SingaporeBeautifully furnished and spacious room. Premium touches such as skincare, dyson hairdryer, filtered coffee and a flask containing ice water. Indoor and outdoor onsen within the room is beautiful while ‘public’ (first come first served) private onsen is even more gorgeous with mountain and stream views. You will not go hungry during this stay and food (both dinner and breakfast) is top quality.

United KingdomFantastic few days at Hidaji. Beautiful spot in the mountains, one of our favourites stops during our holiday in Japan. Staff were very welcoming and helpful, we felt very well looked after. Lovely room with private Onsen, well equipped, nice toiletries and Dyson hairdryer. Large onsens can be reserved impromptuly, lovely to relax in with Mountain views and nice to experience a larger onsen as a couple. Food was fantastic, you are served in a private room within their restaurant area. It is quite an experience, an opportunity to try some great local Japanese cuisine. Arrive hungry! You are certainly well fed. We visited mid March and certainly needed the snow tyres on the hire car as had a big snow fall while there. We took advantage and had an afternoon ski session down the road at Hirayu onsen ski area, small choice of runs but fab snow, relatively quiet and was able to hire all equipment at a very reasonable price. Takayama approx an hour drive away, well worth a visit, loved all the Hida beef snacks.

SingaporeThis is absolutely not a bad point - but I found myself a little worried about the bus system prior to the trip and I want to pay this forward to future guests. The shinhotaka line is more straightforward than I worried about. You can buy a ticket at the Takayama station, or you can also pay on the bus itself (there’s a change machine). If you board at the first stop you don’t need to take a piece of small ticket (when you first step into the bus on the right), but if you board halfway then take this ticket, it represents the stop you got on, and then can refer to the digital board in the bus to know how much to pay (but I find google maps to be quite accurate in price). Luggage is also not an issue, the bus has a compartment at the bottom to let you store it. When alighting just let the driver know you want to take your luggage below. They are all absolutely nice and kind there.
It was such a healing trip at Hidaji! Both the in-room onsen and the semi-private onsens were very enjoyable especially in the cold. Breakfast and dinner were also very hearty (though quite a lot I must say!), and the staff were also very hospitable yet kept a good amount of distance and space for us. So overall I highly recommend this trip to be away from the city life.

GermanyWe wish we could have stayed longer. Next time hopefully!
This ryokan is perfectly located in a small onsen village in the middle of the mountain which sets the mood right away from the beginning. We were greeted heart-fully at the entrance where the staff since then taken great care of us. Every detail and the whole stay, atmosphere, and experience were well thought through. As soon as you enter, you feel the relaxation starting. Our suite was impeccable and with great quality products. We have a private onsen, so many details and amenities such as wearing the yukata for dinner. The beds were so comfortable that we fell already asleep for a quick but deep nap in the afternoon. The dinner itself was an excellent experience on its own with local and high-quality dishes. Another plus was the two semi-private onsens with the view of the mountains and the foot onsen in the village. We have been very well taken care of and felt like queen and king. Truly exceptional!

Hong KongIf I could be extremely picky : Plastic cheap water bottles in the room Water pressure of shower could be stronger but that a more personal opinion I also think that the servers could explain the food more and take more time to really story tell; service was extremely nice and attentive but seemed rushed for breakfast and dinner. But again; this could be just my personal feeling.
This Ryokan has a “luxury” and modern feel to it. It could easily be branded as Aman or a Rosewood Hotel since the upkeep and products / amenities used are of very high quality. The room was incredible and very tastefully designed; a mix between dark and light wood. Beds were super comfy, amazing Yukatas to wear around the hotel. Small private onsen and 2 semi private onsen with great Mountain View. Dinner and breakfast were incredible and only high quality and seasonal ingredients were used.
