How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The hour we had to wait for our room to be ready was troublesome especially as it’s a three o clock booking in, we eventually got booked in very nearly four o clock

The lift at our side of the hotel was out of order.
Large room which was clean with a n8ce selection of tea and coffee etc. Plenty of electrical sockets in the room. Excellent shower with plenty of hot water.

At breakfast it was noticeable that two of the staff were not getting on, in as much that one was working flat out and the other was forever chatting to one customer in particular, consequently the empty dishes were left to pile up on our and other tables.

Lift was broken so had to walk 2 flights of stairs. Not really a problem as we both able bodied. Room a bit dated and warm. Window wouldn't stay open.

Heating in the room was running on full power (while it was quite warm outside for early May), resulting in a very hot room. It was not possible to regulate the heating in the room, not even for the hotel staff, nor even to open the windows. In the end, I managed to at least stop the heating with my ever-ready multitool -- the whole situation could be fixed with a dozen cheap (maybe 3d-printed) knobs for the heating. It's sad, this could be a great hotel, but management does not seem to care.
The hotel is situated directly in front of Aberdeen main station, perfect for a city visit. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, everything was clean. The building once belonged to the Scottish Railway and breathes the grandeur of 18th century.

The room we had was very very dated, stained carpet. Badly damaged bathroom door that was obviously rotting away. The shower in the bathroom was poor as was the quality of the toilet roll and toiletries provided. Also there was very limited electrical sockets and the mirror was very good but was not able to be used when drying or straightening hair as there were no sockets near it.
It is a great location for arriving when travelling by train or bus. Also that fact you can leave luggage when you check in if room is not ready and on check out is a great service. Breakfast was fantastic and great value for money. Staff and service was great when arriving, leaving and during breakfast.

It was a pity the lifts weren't working during our stay
Although it was an older hotel, it did have character and was clean and tidy. Very handy to shopping malls, railway and bus station.

The room was a bit down at heel. There was a big stain on the carpet between the beds. The bath was chipped. The bathroom light flickered like a strobe. 2 out of 4 Mugs were chipped.

We were originally put in a room where the window was boarded up, but when we told reception - they didn’t know - we were moved to a superior room. Both rooms had nowhere to hang your towels in the bathroom - just a couple of hooks on the bathroom door would make all the difference and the first room, which had plenty of space but nowhere to put anything in the bathroom. Toilet bags and toiletries had to be put on the floor. The second room was a bit better as there was some shelving behind the sink and under it.

The heat was unbelievable and with not being able to fully open a window. When we arrived the heating was also on in both rooms and felt like a sauna.

Very very noisy - they even provide ear plugs in the rooms! Strange musty/damp smell in corridors and lifts
