Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere was absolutely nothing I’d change.
The lovely host, Lindsay, contacted us before our stay to let us know that the ferry wouldn’t be running because of forecast high winds. We were oblivious. She suggested a different route a day early and gave us a free night to allow this to happen. When we made it she was there to greet us and immediately made us feel at home, with the log burner lit. The property is perfect, in a lovely village with restaurants, pubs, shops and a kayak experience, Otter’s Tail, all walkable.

United KingdomLindsay and Charlie were fantastic welcoming hosts and they had the place setup perfectly for our arrival. Although they live next door they were careful to give us our privacy but every interaction was fantastic. Aside from that, the property is delightful, well apportioned for going out sightseeing by day but with plenty of space to bunker down by the fireplace at night or on rainier days! Ragnars Rest also has a lovely little theme and history which you can learn about whilst there!

We spent a delightful week at Ragnar's Rest - the accommodation was perfect for the two of us and it is situated in a magical location. Lindsay and Charlie are lovely, friendly, welcoming and helpful hosts. We were blessed by lovely weather and adored sitting out on the decking until late into the night, taking in the serenity of the garden, the Holy Isle seascape and starry dark night sky views.

United KingdomRagnar's Rest is just lovely in every way! With beautiful views of the sea and the Holy Isle, and nestled beside a burn, it's the perfect place to relax and be "off the grid" for a while (although the wi-fi is excellent if one needs an internet connection!). The cottage was cosy and comfortable and had everything I needed. It was especially lovely to sit on the decking at any time of day listening to the burn babbling past and the watching the light change on the water. Linsday and Charlie are the best hosts - friendly, helpful and kind. They gave me lots of suggestions about what to see, do and where to eat, as well as practical advice about the buses. It was very easy to be here without a car. I will certainly be returning. It's a very special place.

Lindsay is absolutely lovely and very helpful, it was lovely to meet her, would have no hesitation to rebook. Lamlash is a great place for a base to get round the island and all the restaurants have wonderful food. Stunning Golf Course as well.

United KingdomAs a place for a few romantic nights away I would add a 2 seater to snuggle up on in front of the wood burner. Easily done, just need to swap out the sideboard for a compact IKEA 2 seater.
Great location and host, accommodation was well equipped and clean. Basics such as shampoo/soap were appreciated. Wood burner was fab!

A lovely, comfortable base in a spectacular and tranquil spot. The accommodation has everything you need for a really enjoyable stay : lovely living area with smart tv, comfy bed and great shower. There's also a little outside seating area to enjoy. 10 minute walk along the seafront to restaurants, bars and shops and a great coffee place which also does amazing pastries etc to take away. Hosts are really friendly and helpful and provided great directions from the ferry terminal. Also sent links to info on walking trails, water sports etc and a folder of instructions and jnfo is available in the accommodation. United KingdomNothing. Exceeded our expectations
Perfect location at side of burn and mature gardens within really close proximity to shoreline. We used our paddleboards most days and once inflated, were left inflated and propped against side of cottage for an easy 1 minute transfer into the sea. Our bikes were also left in front of wood store at side of cottage. Lindsay and Charlie were exceptional hosts, giving lots of great advice/ideas of where to paddle/climb/cycle as well as great dinner recommendations. The cottage is a beautiful cosy and peaceful property for a couple with everything you could need, not to mention the "to die for views" from all windows. We will definitely return.
