Apartment was more spacious than I had expected. Clean, tidy and full of all that I would need for a short stay. The inclusion of an air fryer was really helpful. Each apartment also has a guide for local landmarks and places to visit, and recommendations for nearby restaurants and bars. Staff were very welcoming and polite.

A small, interesting working town on the west bank of Loch Ryan, visited right at the beginning of the season. Henry's Bay House Restaurant is excellent for food and the Ryan Centre has a swimming pool as well as a theatre/cinema with a good programme. There is a great view of the loch and Stranraer is ideally situated for exploring all of Dumfries and Galloway. The people are very friendly, helpful and welcoming.

The people.
The people. Roy came out of his store and greeted us and then walked us to two great places to eat. At the Caslte Hotel we were treated like royality. It was before supper time so they made fixed up our table and served us in style. The food and service was wonderful. David was our taxi driver for all our stay and was also a wonderful guide to the area.

Stranraer is a ferry port with good bus links to Dumfries.
Stranraer is a ferry port with good bus links to Dumfries. The tow, itself had a "sedate ' feel to it. Traffic was slow and polite. Lots of fish and chips shops. The central castle / tower house is the only place of interest and museum. Famous centre for curling with rink open in winter months.

Absolutely highly recommend this beautiful stylish hotel, very clean, great food with a warm welcome
Excellent location on the sea front and lots of parking spaces. Beautiful reception area and staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room was very spacious with a small table and two chairs, large comfy bed and good facilities. Evening meal was lovely, very tasty and well presented with good choices; as was breakfast the next morning, absolutely perfect. The dining room is beautiful and set out nicely. The bars were both superb to have a drink and relax. Absolutely highly recommend this charming hotel, simply one of the best we have stayed in! We will definitely return!

Stranraer is wet and windy and very rundown.
Stranraer is wet and windy and very rundown. There is not a restaurant open past 9 o’clock. Very few takeaways and a Tesco’s and a Morrisons. There is nothing to do past 1730. Once the shops are closed our hotel we arrived at 2045 And the restaurant had already closed, there was no room service we had to go out in the pouring rain and wind to get a takeaway as they would not allow takeaway delivered to the hotel or to be eaten in hotel bar area which only one was open. We had to eat it in a room and it was cold by the time you got back so complete waste of money. This hotel is rundown and has been the same for the last 20 years. Last time we visited it. Stranraer was bustling, then as the port was in town. But no, there is only cairn Ryan you can leave from and it is 6 miles out of the village. All it’s good for is getting the ferry to Belfast.
The location is perfect, quiet with stunning views. Ideal for either popping into Stranraer for something to eat/drink, or local shops, also ideally located if your planning to catch the ferry to Ireland, and what a stop over first.
The rooms are well laid out, with plenty of thought given to presentation, also having plenty of storage space, and the breakfast is fantastic with plenty of choices depending on what you want
The property was very nice, lean, and cozy. The location is very good if you come by car, otherwise is far to reach it from the bus routes.
However, we loved it. Very nice views around, quiet and relaxing place.
Good starting point if you want to explore the area around. There are beaches, botanical gardens, castles, and children's playgrounds nearby.
We loved it and will be back someday.
Thank you.
We liked everything. The accommodation was immaculate. The attention to detail and the thought that had gone into providing what guests would enjoy to have in their room (including biscuits & water every day, wine glasses & bottle opener, a fridge and bathrobes etc), was terrific. We have stayed in many hotels that have not come up anywhere near to the standards of Thornbank House.
Had a fantastic stay at The Craignelder Hotel. The room was large, as was the en suite and bed was huge and comfy. The food great, plentiful and very reasonably priced. As for the staff, they were brilliant, very helpful, especially were to visit in the area.
The area has stunning scenery, and plenty of places to visit. Well worth a visit.
Great pricing and had everything needed for the perfect base camp of the getaway. The additional discount to their sister business, The Swan Inn. Staff being extremely warm, welcoming and friendly.
The area in which the aparment is situated as well as the free parking near by. Easy to get to.
Huge hotel! With one night didn’t have time to experience all of the bars at the hotel! Nice room with view of the water. Quiet with all the necessities needed. Had a lift and an available wheelchair for my husband. Only 15 minutes from the Stena Ferry line.
Brilliant location if you have a car. Stranraer is a couple of miles away for food shopping, and south is some fabulous little towns like Portpatrick. The scenery was amazing, and the cottage is very near the Southern Uplands Way walking route.
Beautiful place with stunning views and scenery. Perfect for a quiet getaway with great walks and plenty of lovely places to visit nearby. My wife and I and our dog thoroughly enjoyed our time away here.
The lovely welcome from Sandy. He made us very welcome. We went to the cenotaph to pay our respects and the pipes and drums where lovely. Stranraer is a lovely place.
great location, lovely owner Elaine made me very welcome, recommended excellent nearby pub to eat and made me a packed lunch for following morning as I left early 😊
