The hotel is situated in a quiet area close to the town centre and about 1.5 miles from the train station. Entrance is via a very steep driveway or flight of steps, neither of which would be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Our room, Balchin's Den, had its own entrance at the side of the main building. It was spacious, comfortable and had been recently decorated in a modern style. Breakfast was served in a large dining room overlooking the front garden. There was a self service buffet offering a variety of cereals, fresh fruit and bread for making toast. The cooked breakfast had to be pre-ordered the evening before.

Great value for money - we needed a place to stay near the airport that would accept late check in and The Carlton Hotel did just that. Very clean room and clean shared bathroom. Great price and helpful staff, nothing to complain about

After a week staying in small hotel rooms this was such a nice break. The room although a little out of date was very spacious, clean and we were able to spread out. The bathroom was enormous and the bed and linens above expectations. So quiet!
