This is just one train stop from Aso station, so provides easy access to Mt. Aso and the surrounding area. The kitchen is fully equipped (cutlery, pans, condiments, etc) and there is a small grocery store nearby to buy ingredients. Rooms are large, and there is a kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a japanese - style bathroom. The piano in the living room was a great and unexpected bonus. We were passing through and only stayed one night, but it would have been a great base to explore the Aso area and we would have loved to stay for longer.

You’re in a small village right by one of the most beautiful beaches in Japan, quiet, untouched by tourism, packed full of traditional houses with ornate roofs, vegetable plots and small shrines. Nearby is another fabulous beach for snorkeling (Myoken-ura) where we saw lots of colourful fish whilst black kites circled above. A truly beautiful area. Kaz’s place is great: huge tatami rooms, a rustic and cool feel to it, and not too modernised which we found fantastic-it felt like we living in an old temple…but warmer and with TV! (A tip for finding the place: it’s easiest to go to the road along the beach first and and go up from there and park nearby!)
