The room was small but very well maintained. It was in sync with the cave dwelling concept and maintained the essence of the Matera cave living. Overall a fantastic stay and definitely recommend.

In Pietra Hotel is set in the pedestrian area of Matera, 200 metres from the city centre. Private parking is available 300 metres away. The room was amazing (balcony with great view and huge jacuzzi), and the staff was very helpful and welcoming. Nice touches (jazz music speakers, variety at breakfast).

When the hostess realised we had to leave crazy early she gave us a little bag of breakfast biscuits to take which was so generous.

Il Borgo Ritrovato - Albergo Diffuso is situated in Montescaglioso, 17 km from Casa Grotta nei Sassi and 18 km from Matera Cathedral. This 3-star hotel offers room service, luggage storage space and free WiFi. Some units at the property have a balcony with a city view. I loved everything! The room was so clean, spacious, and authentic. I rented a car to get there from the airport and it was safely parked on the street in front of the hotel. The breakfast consisted of freshly made items and fruit. Coffee (latte, cappuccino, Americano) and juice were served. The staff were exceptional! I worried about being alone in a foreign place. They went above and beyond. Lucia not only made it possible for me to find lost family records in town hall (an amazing feat), but she guided me to friendly, familiar people and places and made me feel like I was home. I can’t wait to go back!
