This was an incredible and unforgettable experience. We stayed in the Japanese style room with a beautiful view of the garden and mountains. We went several times to the private onsens without ever having to wait. We really felt that we were living an experience. The people working in the facilities are also incredible. We didn’t have time enough to book the dinner so they took us for free to the only restaurant available around, which was amazing.

The accommodation and onsen (for private use) were superb! The owners were very friendly and offered to drive me from/to the Yudanaka train station as well as to/from the Monkey Forest free of charge. The street the onsen is on was very beautiful, close to other onsens (if needed), restaurants and bars, but at the same time, very quiet. I recommend this place very much!

We could not meet the regular shuttle schedule at the train station, so the staff offered to pick up us at the Jigokudani Yaen Koen (Snow Monkey tourist site) parking area. I guess that a senior staff (if not the boss) used her car to pick us up, coz we took the “real” shuttle the next day to the train station. Knowing we do not speak Japanese and wish to have a private onsen, but Suminoyu only has public, they helped us book a private onsen at a nearby location saving us some time to figure that out. Although not all staff speak English well, they are always helpful. Those English-speaking staff always try their best to assist us. We came for the Onsen and Snow Monkey so decided to stay a night in Ryokan instead of rushing back to Tokyo. The Japanese Ryokan style 2 meals deal (一泊二食) is always enjoyable. It was the first time we had a traditional Tatami room, very neat. It's a worthy revisit place!

Having the private onsen bath was a highlight of this room. The dinner was exquisite with fresh seafood and could cater for different diets. Breakfast was another feast, had trouble finishing all the food! This place has access key to the 9 Shibu onsen, so was a lot of fun going around in yukatas and trying them out. And the ryokan has their own public baths for guests as well. Communication with staff beforehand was quick and helpfu and so attentive during our stay. They helped arrange shuttle to snow monkey park and back to Yudanaka train station for a fee. 4 adults, 2 on twin beds and 2 on futon beds and several drinks provided in mini fridge. Very luxurious ryokan stay and were lucky to get the first snow near the end of Nov!

Our stay at Wafu-no-Yado was nothing short of amazing. We booked a half-board stay (breakfast and dinner included) and it was the best decision we made. Our meals were carefully prepared and tasted so good (even better than some omakase courses we've had in Japan). We found ourselves looking forward to meals! The private onsen and shower area in our room was also amazing. The ryokan staff were so hospitable and caring, and did everything they could to ensure our stay was comfortable and pleasant. There truly isn't anything to dislike about our stay. Would totally come back!

It was close to the station and supermarket. The owner of the ryokan is incredibly kind - he shuttled us to the monkey park, and also back to the station (as we were a group of six with many luggages and it snowed heavily overnight). The rooms were spacious and amenities were generous too. We also appreciated the thermal flask in the room -- truly one of the best I've used -- it kept the water steaming hot for about 12 hours.

Rooms are spacious and feels like home. Private onsen baths are really nice. The location is bit far from train station and buses are not frequent. They provided shuttle transportation to and from train station free of cost. And Delicious Japanese dinner and breakfast.

This was by far the best Ryokan experience that we've had in Japan so far. Incredibly friendly staff, great location with beautiful bathing facilities and very very tasty food (I still feel bad about the horse meat though...). What more could one ask for? Admittedly, it's a bit off-track if you don't have a car, but they offer a shuttle service to the next station (Suzaka, not Suzuka ^^) so it worked out fine even for us. Thanks for having us, we'd gladly come back.

Amazing ryokan experience with wonderful hosts who went above and beyond to help us enjoy our stay, provided delicious fresh meals and gave us great tips for visiting the surrounding areas. The location is also great fot visiting beautiful countryside that surrounds it, Obuse, and the snow monkey park. The onsen variety is really great too.

Incredibly friendly staff and beautiful location. We have rarely felt this welcome before. The Onsen experience is really next level with traditional Japanese rooms and the possibility to sit in the hot water and look up at the stars at night. The included food is delicious, and you are within driving distance of hiking/skiing.
