One of the highlight hotels we stayed at during our driving trip around Honshu. The hotel in all aspects is relaxing from the time you settle in and pop down for a free coffee or glass of spirits to relaxing in the hot on-site Onsen. Wandering through the charming village was also a bonus as it is the home of the small wooden dolls called Kokeshi (you will want to buy them all but reality always dictates the situation). A must visit is to the Kokeshi Museum (DO NOT GO TO THE FALSE ONE) but one has to ask to see the oldest doll in the collection. Neat collection of simple Japanese art form in wooden dolls. Eating in the town is a must especially in the traditional eateries on the main street and then wandering through the backstreets checking out the way the Japanese harvest their grapes from under the vines not as done in OZ. The property was clean, spacious, and in a lovely location with a view of the mountains from the room. The bath on the 6th floor was lovely and the little outdoor section was a nice experience in the cool weather. The baths have all the things you need for your washing and skin care so you can just bring a towel if you want. The buffet was SO GOOD! Highly recommend getting half board during your stay. The other facilities like the table tennis, manga room, etc. were nice too. Karaoke is pay per hour per person. Also, the staff were extremely friendly and professional. They always helped us with any questions and brought a baby chair for us every mealtime.

Everything from the location to the palatial size of the room to the tattoo friendly onsen, too bad I wasn't aware of an evening meal served there. The owners are the real treasure there, I wouldn't think twice about recommending this place to anyone interested in visiting Matsushima.
