We were excited to stay in a cave/hotel during our trip to Matera and l'Hotel di Pietra did not disappoint! We had a beautiful, large room with jacuzzi and sauna that was breathtaking. The staff was very helpful and the communal breakfast area in the main lobby area was very good as well! The hotel was a few minute walk from a main piazza and the center of town. From the entrance to the property we had a great view of the Duomo and the Sassi. Matera was magical and staying at Pietra complemented our Matera experience.

We loved the whole experience, it was amazing to stay in what felt like a cave, really authentic but with modern amenities. The staff were great, really helpful and friendly. And the breakfast was wonderful, the staff who ran breakfast were so kind and obviously really hard working.

Matera is a truly mesmerizing place, and our experience there was absolutely incredible. From the moment we arrived, Alessandra went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. She assisted us in finding a taxi from the train station and warmly welcomed us with a detailed map of the city, highlighting all the must-see places, tourist routes, and providing us with valuable information. Not only was Alessandra exceptional, but the entire staff was also helpful and friendly throughout our entire stay. They were always available to answer our questions, offer suggestions, and provide any assistance we needed. Their genuine hospitality truly enhanced our experience. The room we stayed in was conveniently accessible and the staff kindly helped us with our luggage right up to the door. The room itself was comfortable, clean, and well-maintained, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. We found in our room the breakfast for the next day and it included a wide variety of options to suit everyone's tastes. From the moment we set foot in Matera, it was love at first sight. Great central little hotel, literally 3 minutes' walk to Matera's main square. Very friendly and helpful staff, quiet location despite its centrality. Good wifi. Free street parking very tricky to find (but available around the hotel) but we found paid for parking round the corner (1 euro/hour from 8am to 8.30pm but free of charge between 8.30pm and 8am).

Excellent location for visiting the Sassi. In the centre of the old town but still accessible for taxi drop off and also close to the station. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room. The decor was a very Italian mix of traditional and modern.
