I loved my tiny room carved into the rock. The terrace offers the most spectacular view on Matera. There are educational videos on Matera shown discreetly in the breakfast room, very interesting.

We were excited to stay in a cave/hotel during our trip to Matera and l'Hotel di Pietra did not disappoint! We had a beautiful, large room with jacuzzi and sauna that was breathtaking. The staff was very helpful and the communal breakfast area in the main lobby area was very good as well! The hotel was a few minute walk from a main piazza and the center of town. From the entrance to the property we had a great view of the Duomo and the Sassi. Matera was magical and staying at Pietra complemented our Matera experience.

Hotel San Giorgio provided us with a beautiful room, the Frantoio, for an amazing stay in Matera. The Room's position is perfect to relax and have quiet and peace, while still enjoy the beauty of living in the middle of the Sassi. The bathroom is large and modern, with lovely shower and everything you need and more. I loved the fact that the room was provided with a full package of local products and breakfast foods and drinks for all kinds of taste and those were replenished every day, so that our snacking wasn't depending on the opening hours of any buffet. Overall we were very happy with our experience, the courtesy of the staff, the super useful pointers they gave us and the beauty of the room.

Great central little hotel, literally 3 minutes' walk to Matera's main square. Very friendly and helpful staff, quiet location despite its centrality. Good wifi. Free street parking very tricky to find (but available around the hotel) but we found paid for parking round the corner (1 euro/hour from 8am to 8.30pm but free of charge between 8.30pm and 8am).

Set right inside Matera's Sassi area, a UNESCO site, Albergo Italia provides free WiFi throughout. The Italia's en-suite rooms feature air conditioning, and some have views of the Sassi.

Excellent location for visiting the Sassi. In the centre of the old town but still accessible for taxi drop off and also close to the station. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room. The decor was a very Italian mix of traditional and modern.

Very attentive and speaks English well. This is near the bottom of Marera so easy to walk if you have any mobility issues. So much fun to sleep in a cave with a beautiful bathtub
