Our host was fantastic, very kind and generous! The accommodation was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Fantastic views, different every day. So high up that we looked down on a rainbow 🌈 I highly recommend a visit.

Location is superb. Very close to the Conimbriga site, the most extensive Roman remains in Portugal. Parking at the front of the hotel. Spacious lobby and very helpful staff. Our room was spacious and clean, with all the facilities you'd expect from a high-class hotel. The indoor pool area and sauna, etc, was brilliant. Did not try the outside pools in January!! Food was very good (choice and quality) without being exceptional. The staff in all areas of the hotel were exceptionally friendly and efficient. Maybe I got a good deal, but I considered our 3 night stay to be superb value for money. We will definitely be going back.

Gorgeous hotel, built in a restored palace. It is tastefully renovated, has a pool and a sauna, great breakfast and a really nice restaurant ( we had dinner there after a long day when we did not have time to go anywhere else).

Position is perfect, tucked away in a country corner next to a beautiful flowing river. Facilities are brand new and well laid out. The spa was a wonderful addition to the establishment.

Do not think twice booking this hotel. I am a very fussy traveler and this hotel exceeded my expectation. The decor inside was very glamorous, the indoor and outdoor pools, outside bar area and garden were very beautiful. It felt like an oasis after a busy Lisbon. We fell asleep every night with open windows, listening to the sound of the stream that runs beside the hotel. The mattresses were exceptional and water pressure in showers good. The hotel is also right in the middle of nature outside of the little town of Penela and therefore felt very peaceful. Receptioin called daily a gentleman from the town to drive us to and back from the This was an experience in itself. There is a cafe opposite the taxi rank that the locals go to. We went twice to have a traditional Portugese drink and food. The full experience. Nobody can speak English but we chatted with everybody. Castle is a non event and town offers very little. If you need a good rest, spoil yourself by going to this hotel.
