The visit was principally in order to visit the Gem Stone market but there are plenty more places to see. The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is well worth a visit. A number of Temples are there too.

Going through the Taksin shipyard and reviewing things there. Has character and some past history I am sure. We ate at the resort because they order whatever you want and their family brings it in for you at anytime. Breakfast was exceptional, a mix of european and thai and fitted our family. Easy to get around; however, would try and find an easier route to get to the Meena, we did not have GPS, so we ended up inside of the town and had a long drive to the resort.Suzanne PThailand - 6.0Scored 6.0

We went to the National Park, which was close, to see the waterfall. Ha ha ha ha, climbed up many steps and there it was, a little trickle of water falling down a hill....ha ha ha ha. Would not recommend this tourist attraction. Of course, I have been to real waterfalls, and so maybe that has something to do with my remarks.

This hotel/ "resort" is located about 1/2 km down a Soi from the main road. The rooms are more like stand-alone apartments or houses, with a lot of gravel parking. I booked the cheapest room, and the room was large and clean for the price. The check-in and check-out was very smooth and fast. Plenty of space and places to sit: the room actually had three tables (two inside and one on the small balcony outside). Bed was comfy and large. The location was really quiet and out of town, so great if you have transport and either want somewhere for a stopover or a base to explore Chanthaburi. Great value for money! Will definitely be back!

The hostel is the nicest one I have stayed in while in SE Asia and I have been traveling for 8 months in 4 countries. The staff was very helpful with providing documentation as I extended my visa in Thailand. Without request my room was upgraded, which was a wonderful surprise. Very comfortable beds, too! Chanthaburi is a very fun town with a lot of different areas to explore.

For the only 1 night we were in town we definitely wanted to have Baan Luang Rajamaitri as our base. And we absolutely loved this place! Fantastic room, super friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast. Chanthaburi is a surprisingly nice city, we wished we planned a night extra.
