Each accommodation at the 4-star ryokan has mountain views, and guests can enjoy access to a sauna and a hot spring bath. The staff were friendly, helpful, and could communicate in basic English. There were accessible and detailed instructions for the public, private, and in-room Onsen. The 4 private outdoor Onsen (first come first serve) were lovely and peaceful. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were delicious and filling. There are complimentary frozen snacks in the lounge area. Free shuttle bus service available upon request with the ryokan. We were fortunate to be added to the list last minute (the day before departure) from Jozankei to Sapporo, but would recommend contacting the Ryokan in advance to reserve. The public buses between Sapporo and Jozankei (e.g. 8J and 7J) can get quite crowded, which can make traveling with luggage challenging.

This was our absolute favorite hotel during our entire trip to Hokkaido! The hotel is incredibly beautiful, with aesthetic details everywhere you look. Everything was spotlessly clean, and all the staff were so kind and welcoming. You can even book a private hot spring, which was such a special experience!
We chose the breakfast-included option, and it was absolutely amazing—so delicious and abundant. On top of that, the restaurant’s view was breathtakingly beautiful.
Our room was simply perfect—we loved it so much! It was spacious, beautifully designed, and had a stunning view of the ocean right outside.
We are already looking forward to coming back again in the future! Thank you so much to the Wakamatsu and all the wonderful staff for giving us such a memorable stay. I highly recommend this hotel to everyone!

We stayed here to experience this amazing onsen town, to learn more about Japanese culture & to soak in the steaming mineral waters. We chose a traditional room with a futon bed (shikibuton) with makura, sleeping on the floor and embracing the opportunity to lounge in a yukata (cotton kimono) & of course, use the Grand Bath, which unlike the other hotels, was located onsite.
so beautiful, impeccably clean. wonderful breakfast spread. plush and luxe tatami beds. amazing private AND public onsen. they even had yukata you could borrow and a pillow bar! what’s not to love? right next to the ocean in the april chill.
Right next to Hell Valley. Good view of Noboribetsu. Pretty hotel interior with artwork on display. Great for onsen aficionados with enormous grand bath and range of onsen options. Comfy futon beds, and the Japanese style room was elegant in design if a bit tired. Includes an indoor pool for families to swim together or those who prefer to wear swimsuits - swimsuit hire available. Liked the hot spring drinking station to taste the waters. Good on-site giftshop.
It is located at a quiet and peaceful area, with great onsen, both jacuzzi and outdoor onsen are available. The tatami room was also great, especially if you like the tatami and futon experience.
Not too far from station, lovely in-hotel onsen and yukata provided so it was very convenient :) futons and beds were comfortable :)
Very large property, Japanese style rooms with futons were large and comfy and facilities (yukatas etc) very good. In the evening staff will come and make the futon beds and leave nice snacks. Onsen pools were fabulous, indoor and outdoor. Many different types of pools sulphur etc. Large pools too. Enjoyed the buffet breakfast and the kaiseki dinner too. Large selection at breakfast.
It is a solid ryokan. I have stayed in several others throughout Japan and this one is a solid middle class one. The staff is making an effort and the futon beds were comfortable. I also liked that they use 100% hot spring water in the onsen
Great amenities, there were a lot of areas to explore in the Ryokan and it was kept very clean. They have a DDR machine (note the opening hours though) and a manga shelf (which is cool even if we couldn't read Japanese). The futon and chairs are comfortable and the rooms are gorgeous. The onsen has some unique baths, and an outdoor pool area looking out to the city. The staff are very nice, note also they only speak Japanese, and I got the impression this is a stay frequented more by locals than tourists.
Like the hot spring facilities (onsen) - it's big. Buffet dinner is good, with wide variety and crab/seafood. Like the futon bed experience.
