Very nice ryokan managed by very nice people. The location is the best of all in Nagano, nearly in front of the Zenkoji temple. If you wish to try a Ryokan, which is something very different from a western style hotel and refreshing in many ways, just book it!

300 metres from Zenkoji Temple, 信州善光寺 薬王院 is set in Nagano and offers air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi. A public bath is available for guests.

It’s an excellent ryokan experience including the meals , just loved staying here . Very welcoming , helpful staff and location is so perfect just adjoining the temple wall and close to the bus stop from Nagano station too. Wish we had stayed a few days more here

This is such a special place. A 150 year old Ryokan perfectly located next to the Middle Shrine. Run by a lovely family who do everything to make you feel welcome. Dinner and breakfast were exquisite! And they catered for one of our party who does not eat seafood. Staying at this Yokokura Ryokan is one of the highlights of our trip.

The main structure of the building is very historic and old, but the individual rooms are modernized and very tidy. I've never had a room in a ryokan before that had its own private toilet and shower! I think the photos don't show how well-maintained the rooms are. The breakfast was also delicious and the host provided us with small extras for our child. The shared baths were nice and hot. It's very well located for the temple district but food places in the area close early so you'll need to walk a little further away.

There are a total of seven of us traveling by car in the Nagano and Nagaoka areas, and this is the only hotel that can accommodate 7 people. The host is very friendly and tried to communicate with us in slow Japanese and simple English. The room is big and clean, the air-conditioning facilities and bedding are also very comfortable. But be aware that there is only shared washrooms, and because of the covid, the onsen closes before 7:30, which means it will be difficult for you to take a shower after 7:30 (2022/08/05).

The food was great. We could not finish dinner because they gave us so much delicious food like boar and monkfish. Breakfast was also very filling and definitely worth the money because there are not many restaurants in the area. The staff was very nice - giving us a full tour when we checked in and were very friendly and approachable. The public onsen was nice as well as our private one. They made our futons for us in our room during dinner. Everything was clean enough. They spoke very limited English, but had translations pre-prepared for most things. I was able to get by with simple Japanese. They also gave you quite a bit of amenities like shampoo, skincare, aftershave, socks, and water bottles. Overall, our stay was very comfortable and I enjoyed it.

Warabino team was simply amazing. Everyone is very kind, gentle and proactive. They gave us a ride to and from the train station. That's an important point considering the distance from downtown. We had both meals, breakfast and dinner, with them. All we tasted was fantastic. The possibility to turn the public bath into a private Onsen when there isn't someone using it, it's another differential. The futons was soft and we had a good night sleeping. The heating in our room was the right way too. Surely we'll come back.

Everything was perfect. We enjoyed the spacious room and all amenities that were provided were of high quality. The onsen was beautiful, especially the RotenBuro(outside onsen) as it provided tranquil scenery with a pond and Koi, after dark it was especially peaceful while watching the snow fall and the fish swim. The dinner provided was plenty. We thank you for making this stay special and we hope to return. Best, 浜
