Great stay. The place is just renovated, really clean and bright, yet it preserves that very Japanese character that is so interesting to see. The city itself feels relaxed and lovely. There is a stunning temple just across the corner from the house. Then, the owner speaks English fluently, and if time permits can show/tell a lot. Definitely recommended.

It’s located 5-10 minutes from the town where there are many nice places to eat and a short walk from the main attractions. Stayed for 1 night, wish it was 2. Very friendly hosts. Great location 2 mins from geisha district. Perfect for low budget travellers, we found the room super lovely and had great value dinner at wakadaisyou ramen across the river only a short walk away. Ken Roku en, castle park and omicho market all in walking distance (15-20 mins). Breakfast was fully booked so I would advise to ask in advance if you intend to add breakfast.

A fantastic property. The worst element is also its strength: it's a bit far from other places you may want to go. However, it's also right by the river, so you get a fantastic view from any room you book. Beyond having a solid breakfast and excellent rooms, what really stood out to me as a feature was the additional random items you can play around with. There's a shamisen by the front desk you can learn to play, there were juggling balls in the room to learn to juggle, and there were some lovely local sweets as a welcome gift.

Sumiyoshiya is lovely ryokan with a lot of attention to detail. The host is warm and welcoming. Our room was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. They had readied our room ahead of the usual check-in time, which we really appreciated. Their location in the city is great and we walked to most of the main sights. The shared hot tubs (separate for men and women) at the ryokan are well set up and relaxing. We're vegetarians, so we had to opt for the continental breakfast - it was hearty and of excellent quality. Our experience at Sumiyoshiya was so unique and comfortable that we'd prefer it to a hotel anyday.

Great traditional accommodation (Ryokan) with private Onsen. Very spacious rooms with authentic furniture including tatami mats. Coffee, drinks and snacks are for free. The location ist perfect for visiting the beautiful Kenroku-en Garden, the nearby castle or the traditional Geisha quarter (Higashi chaya). The Kanazawa station is approx. 25 minutes away (walking distance) and 10 minutes by taxi.

I really recommend staying in this ryokan. Staff is doing everything to make you feel like home. Walking distance to main attractions in the city. You can take a bus or walk to the station for about 20 minutes. Bathing in onsen and sleeping on futon was a unique experience. Breakfast was very delicious, everything was fresh.

Great location, close to the Geisha Village, Castle and a 20 minute walk from many bars and restaurants. The ryokan was lovely and traditional, I loved the Yukata's, the onsen which we were able to use privately, the green tea in our rooms and the tatami mats and futon set up. Bungo and his mother were very kind, friendly and attentive. If you're looking for a traditional experience at a reasonable price, then I would recommend this ryokan.

Very beautiful, typical japanese ryokan, huge room with beautiful tatami and view on internal garden. The landlady is very welcoming, proactive and nice. The room had a WC and basin; the internal onsen (common bath) was very confortable, spacious and clean, with a typical hot tub. The position is very central and quiet. An excellent stay that surpassed our expectations

Wonderful Ryokan experience. Bungo was extremely helpful and explained the best sights in Kanazawa for us to visit. The room was large with a tatami floor and looked onto a beautiful garden. Yukatas were provided for walking around the Ryokan. Clean facilities and some amenities provided. The baths were able to be used by myself and my husband privately. It was about 25 minutes walk from the station and very close to Kanazawa castle gardens.

Beautiful little traditional Ryokan, we felt right at home. The tatami room with futon bed was very comfortable and super clean. Japanese breakfast in the morning was good. Great location, walking distance from the market, and all major attractions. The host was super friendly as well.

Authentic ryokan yet very foreigner-friendly. Immerse yourself in a traditional Japanese house and enjoy the onsen, the sleep on the futon and a tasty local breakfast. Definitely worth trying out!

The whole Ryokan experience, sleeping on a futon over a tatame and including Onsen bath. It was exactly what we were looking for. It was an amazing experience for the whole family. And the hosts don’t measure efforts to make you feel welcome.

our family had a wonderful and relaxing stay here. We got to experience a stellar Ryokan experience with wonderful Japanese hospitality. Meals were delicious and filling and the onsen was lovely. Waking up in the tatami room to the window view of greenery and Sakura was really nice. the staff were also polite, friendly and very caring! kudos to the team

fantastic family run ryokan (traditional japanese inn), with a shared onsen, outstanding food, and a traditional room with tatami floors, paper wall deco and clothes to wear during the stay (not mandatory of course). The manager is very kind and paying close attention to details. We had a delicious dinner in the room (highly recommended!!) prepared by the family, with salmon, tempura, sashimi, a large prawn, miso soup, rice, fruits, and may small nipples - it's the best dinner experience we had in Japan.
