Everything - room was way bigger than expected, with 2 full size rooms, 2 bathrooms, balcony and a sitting down area. Also, the hot tub/private onsen was way bigger than it seemed in the photos, and could easily fit 2 people at the same time. The onsen room was also way better looking than in the photos. Also, despite saying that it doesn’t serve dinner, the ‘light meals’ at the lounge are more than enough to satisfy given you can take as many as you want, and quite delicious. My favourite meals here were during the tea time though, so make sure not to miss it.

Everything is crazily awesome!! We booked a higher-floor lake-view room. It's on 6 floors. The room is really big since it's not my first time staying at this kind of traditional Japanese onsen Ryokan. 1. The check-in male staff is really professional and his English is one of the best during my stay in Japan. 2. The lady who was responsible for our room Yuki, was really helpful and completed every her mission perfectly from welcome tea to set up and serving our whole traditional Japanese dinner. 3. The rooftop is the best reason to stay here. You can see the whole of Fuji Mountain here. The day we checked in was clear but with some cloud on the tip of the mt. But on the day we checked out was really clear. 4. The shared onsen on the fourth floor is also awesome. There are all kinds of onsen and saunas. Even better with an outdoor one! I didn't go in the daytime but if you stay here please try it. 5. The shuttle bus is really helpful since most of our trains are after 3 pm. You can also use it when you checkout first, leave your bags here explore around and come back to take the shuttle bus back to the train station.

The staff were all exceptionally friendly and attentive - everyone from the shuttle bus driver and receptionists to the restaurant staff. Mount Fuji is visible from the rooms and also from the nice little onsen on the top floor. The shuttle bus service is very convenient to and from Kawaguchiko station. Both the dinner and breakfast were great and plentiful. The view gets a bit better as you go further along the lakeshore away from Kawaguchiko station, but we found Hotel Asafuji to be good value for money and the wonderful service made it a very pleasant stay.

An absolutely lovely experience, with charming staff, a superb room and facilities, and phenomenal views in either direction - but if you ask me, you owe it to yourself to choose a room with a view of the majestic Mount Fuji. Though this may depend on the time of year: it was spectacularly snow-capped in early April. I found the futon on tatami mats to be less comfortable than a good mattress, but not particularly uncomfortable either. I suspect it's a matter of getting used to it, as I fell asleep more easily on the second night. It was perfectly acceptable, and part of the traditional Ryokan experience I wanted from my visit. The set meals use seasonal and local specialities. Be warned that if you're not into seafood, you may get more than you would wish. This was the case for me, as my second dinner and second breakfast were both predominantly fish and shellfish, the latter of which I do not typically enjoy. However I resolved to eat everything set in front of me as the point of my visit was to embrace a traditional Ryokan experience, not to reject it. I even ate the grilled sea snail (not bad!) and, more daunting still, sea snail sashimi (tastes okay but very chewy)! I was surprised not only that I could eat it all but I actually enjoyed a lot of it. Must be in the preparation - kudos to the chefs! There is a lot to do in the area, which is served by multiple tour buses. The green line has a stop right outside Maruei, and you can use it to connect to other lines if need be. 1 and 2 day passes can be purchased online and displayed to the driver as you exit a bus. Plan your desired stops and optimal route in advance, but be conservative with your estimates and avoid my mistake: be sure to get an early start. The last buses run at 5 pm and there is only a bus every 60 minutes or, later in the day, every two hours. Additionally, in my experience, every bus I got on was at least 10 minutes later than it was scheduled.

I really like the traditional Japanese style room. The room is clean. Although the facilities are a bit old and basic, they are good enough. The hot spring is very good.
