We had a suite with the private onsen which was fantastic. So peaceful, relaxing and romantic. It was expensive at nearly 70,000 yen (approx $700 AUD) per night and we stayed two nights, but the experience was totally worth it. If you can, definitely get this room. The little town of Yamanakaonsen is only about a 15 minute walk and has a convenience store and other gift shops. We found a lovely spot down by the river. The staff were all excellent, as I have found in all Japanese hotels, but I want to make a special mention about a young Indonesian lady (Sushi) who waited on our table. She explained the extensive menu in Japanese to my Japanese wife and again in English to me. Her bubbly personality was a delight. The food was outstanding, top quality and plentiful. Overall one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had. The onsen in your room overlooking the river and forest was just perfect.

As of now the best Japanese traditional hotel I've ever stayed. Spacious onsen, spacious room, awesome service and an incredible choice for breakfast. A pity I was late to book the traditional dinner. Also I was so lucky that they staffed also an italian receptionist. She helped me so much.

It was nice to be able to book private baths for free each day. The room had a lovely view of the river. There is a free shuttle bus service to and from the Kago Onsen JR train station. It is a short walk to the town centre through a picturesque pathway near the river. It is also close to the start of one end of the river gorge walk which was the best part of Kago Onsen in our trip.

Lovely Outdoor and Indoor public bath, so clean and with all the amenities. The private outdoor bath in our room was exactly as promised. Absolutely heaven. The dinner is out of this world! Cannot recommend this hotel enough

It was a bit different from what I expected, I liked the Onsen, we chose the private one, and it was really nice and beautiful. I also had a foot massage which was really relaxing and on point. The room was very big, and very traditional, so it was a cool experience, however there were a few things that left me a bit confused. We had a good experience overall but looking back, I would probably not choose it again.
