From the moment I stepped on the houseboat till I deboarded, the staff was extremely kind, attentive and very accommodating. The meals were top-notch. I wanted to try toddy and the captain helped me to purchase it from a local vendor. Do not miss canoeing in the backwaters to see tiny hamlets on both sides, giving a glimpse into the everyday lives of the people there. My room was surprisingly comfortable, much higher than I expected. The leisurely cruise gave me time to relax and absorb the calmness of nature. No TV or wifi, which is great for digital detox. It's a must-do in Kerala.

Marari Beach Resort offers a sea-side village experience. Located 9.7 km from Alleppey and 14.5 km from Kumarakom, it has an outdoor pool while beachside dining is available.

A beautiful hotel in an amazing location surrounded by the backwaters lake and boats. The rooms are big, clean and comfortable.The staff is super nice and helpful. They built for me a wooden ramp in a couple of hours as the accessible room was occupied. The food was delicious with a lot of choices. The swimming pool was fun for the kids in the middle of the small lake. And our next location came to us as the houseboat anchored in the resort.

The owners were exceptional. They could not have been more attentive hosts. The location is wonderful, fronting on to a backwater leading to the lake. Its a tranquil spot, perfect for bird and boat watching. Traditional Keralan Breakfast with a few additions like toast and omelette and coffees were delivered to the seating area in front of each room.

Coconut Lagoon is a heritage backwater destination on the lakeside, a 10-minute boat ride from Kavanatinkara boat landing. Facing Vembanad Lake, it features an outdoor pool.

The perfect retreat for a few nights of total relaxation - from the moment you take the boat to get there to leaving the experience is fantastic. Absolutely stunning location, the staff are incredibly kind, friendly, professional and welcoming. A beautifully well kept location. The food was excellent from breakfast to dinner. The highlight for me was Navin the yoga/meditation guru - morning yoga sessions and evening mediation was the perfect way to start and end the day. Navin is very kind and experienced teacher, really a pleasure to meet him, he’s also incredibly knowledgeable about books and reading, so please ask him to recommend a book if you’re a book worm like me, he was fantastic!

Enchanting location, very calm and peaceful with beautiful views of Vembanad lake. The hotel is a work of art - a church creatively renovated with stunning modern design contrasted by historical artefacts and paintings. The breakfast and dinner was great and the staff were incredibly helpful - waiting up until 1am for our late arrival and upgrading our room. The boat ride to the other side of the lake and the narrow backwaters was well worth the money - the driver founds us lots of bird and wiildlife to photograph (kingfishers, an otter etc).
