How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Breakfast was great, they have different options for it. The location is great, very close to Santa Monica Beach and you can find different restaurants nearby

I simply loved this place! A few yards from Santa Monica Beach and from the bus stop to LA airport. Rooms are clean and spacious with the possibility of the ensuite bathroom. Breakfast included.

All I would recommend is possibly adding curtains to the beds for some privacy, and having a milk option for the (very generous) free coffee available.
I've been to Los Angeles six times and have stayed at this hostel every single time. It is the best hostel I have ever stayed at, and it is such a great way to meet people, especially at breakfast time. The breakfast options were amazing, and the amount was plentiful. A huge variety of options, I looked forward to it every morning. The location is perfect, a stone's throw from Santa Monica Pier and so many cafes & restaurants. Target and Trader Joe's are so close, and just a 20 minute walk from Von's too. The staff are always friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Rooms are spacious, clean, and beds are comfortable.

Nothing to mention, it was a great experience. Price is not way cheap but being in the US and comparing to the hotels around you find it a good deal.
Location couldn't be better, cleanliness of the bathroom and the building itself great, comfy bed and lockers within the room, towels available all day, fountains to refill your bottle of water, breakfast good enough, front desk available 24h.Best hostel ever.

The men's bathroom was left in a really disgusting state by some of the other guests. Fortunately this was rectified during the daily cleaning of the bathrooms.
The breakfast was really good. The Coffee was good. A bonus at the breakfast was the guy working there. Really cool and nice guy.

The breakfast could have had more , not many vegetarian options and shower was cold but still a great stay.
So close to the beach, friendly and helpful staff. Lots of common rooms and activities

Parking in Santa Monica is really expensive.
I really liked this hostel. Location is perfect, spotless, beds were ok, travelers were friendly. Especially cleaning, I have never seen such a clean hostel before.

Toilets needed more regular cleaning.

AMAZING location, staff, amenities, comfort, value... my first time staying in a hostel and I'm probably ruined for every experience after. The location is incredible!! Perfectly situated downtown. I parked across from the hostel and walked everywhere; lots of restaurants and shops around the area, the beach nearby too. The place is huge with tons of common areas to relax in; a robust schedule of events to connect interested guests. It felt INCREDIBLY safe and I was very, very, very happy with my experience. Beds had their personal lamps and charging areas. It was just a great stay and I look forward to staying again when I'm in the area.

Beds a but squeaky
Staff were great, they organized events to get to meet the other guests and the hostel overall had a very nice vibe. Very clean. It's close to the beach and pier and the area around is safe and well connected to the rest of LA and the airport by public transportation

I find it very expensive, since you share room with 7 other women!

I would like to tell a bit carefully with the cleaning in the women bathrooms. But it’s not your fault the guests let lots of hairs on the shower sink and don’t clean toilets after use… The WiFi didn’t work after 9:30pm every day
The breakfast was nice. The common parts are very kind. The staff are helpful and the comedy party for my first evening make me lots of laughs

Privacy curtains on the bunks would be amazing. A chair in the dorm would be helpful for those on tops bunks.
The location is amazing and the staff were helpful. Bed was comfortable and decent sheets and towels were provided.
