Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe hill walk back up is not for the faint of heart but we did not mind and it gets quite busy around the castle.
We loved our stay at Solar do Castelo. Location was great, very quiet - apart from the peacocks and classical concert in the castle but it was a treat to sit in the courtyard in the evening and listen. Pick up from airport was extremely helpful given the location being tricky to navigate by car. The refreshments available were a nice touch. The room was comfortable enough and had everything we needed.

United KingdomNothing - everything was excellent!
The room was immaculate with great touches such as the carafe of port, topped up daily. The lounge and terrace were excellent in all respects, so relaxing inside or out. Especially the 3-person cushioned sun 'lounger'.... Complimentary coffee, tea and pastries during the day and prosecco after 6pm were gratefully indulged! The staff are wonderful, super helpful and friendly. The breakfast was first-class - quality food, extensive and something for everyone. A perfect set-up for the day. On our last day we flew back late but Solar Do Castelo were happy for us to use the hotel facilities after checkout until our taxi arrived. A memorable stay, thank you!

United KingdomNot really the fault of the hotel but the peacocks made every morning a 6am start.
It's a lovely location right by the castle. Little bit of an oasis from the madness of Lisbon.

United StatesOnly one employee did not meet our expectations. I had a significant health issue and most employees transported us in the golf cart for late dinners. One employee would not pick us up and was a bit rude. Other than that it was wonderful.
I loved the location and the historic property. Breakfasts were nice. Outdoor area was lovely with the peacocks. The tours and transports were great.

SwedenI am so grateful for having the opportunity to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary together with my wife at Solar do Castelo in mid-March. It was a very romantic place in historical surroundings. Included in the price of the room was the airport transfer in a nice car with a very friendly driver who in an excellent way drove through narrow alleys all the way to the main entrance of the hotel. The staff at the hotel did their best to give us a very special memory. We received an upgrade for our room, and a special welcome gift waited for us in the room. So kind of them! The inner courtyard was also nice and picturesque where peacocks came and went showing their beauty in different ways. They almost sounded like cats when they made their noises, but we got used to that 😊 A very delicious breakfast was served with a lot of different things to choose between for all tastes. They had freshly squeezed orange juice every morning. I have stayed at many nice hotels during the years but never had that as a standard choice of beverage. Afternoon tea or coffee with a lot of different and delicious pastries were also served every day included in the price. Pastel de nata, the local pastry from Lisbon, was a favorite. Gratefulness, happiness, thankfulness and amazement are a few words that describe my memory of staying three nights at Solar do Castelo! If you want to give your wife a very memorable experience which she never will forget, Solar do Castelo is the place to stay at ❤️ I cannot end this review without thanking God the Almighty, our Father in Heaven, for giving us the possibility to stay at the best place in Lisbon!

United KingdomThe peacocks can be noisy but you soon get used to them. It wouldn't stop us staying here again
A lovely peaceful corner of Lisbon to stay after a busy days sightseeing. We had room 3 room on the ground floor which was light and airy with french doors and looked over the courtyard. The bed was very comfortable. The public area was a great place to relax - drinks and cakes were freely available all day, and sparkling wine in the evening. The courtyard is spacious and relaxing. The staff were very helpful. If we return to Lisbon we would stay here again. It is at the top of a steep hill, so a good pair of trainers are helpful.

UkraineSituated in a historic building next to the castle, the location offered a charming ambiance. We especially appreciated the delightful private terrace, perfect for savoring breakfast or unwinding in the evening. While the rooms were compact, they were impeccably clean and equipped with everything we needed. The staff was exceptional, displaying utmost professionalism and eagerness to assist with any inquiry. Our experience was truly delightful.

United StatesIt was LOUD. The hardwood floors are beautiful, but amplify every sound. They had a number of late check ins and I would have thought they were using megaphones to talk to each other. It may have been the location of our (very lovely) room, but I would highly recommend closing the doors from reception to the rooms and getting some more carpets. Also, the window in our room opened WIDE, which I loved, but we struggled with how to have it open at night and still have the curtains mostly closed. Having it tilt open or some other curtain arrangement might help as the room was quite warm.
I LOVED the decor and vibe of the hotel - totally “me”. The staff was wonderful and the location was AMAZING!
