How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

There wasn’t any place in the shower to put my shower stuff, but other than that I enjoyed having a bathroom connected to the room.
For a party hostel this one is astoundingly clean. The staff are super friendly and “mama” with her crepes and fun conversations make this one of the most welcoming places to stay. If your a chill traveler like me or a party person- this hostel will do your trip justice:)

Its hard to find anything wrong with what you get for the price.
Great staff, thank you to Tomas, Will and Mama, who looked after us very well and made us feel at home. Staff are very friendly and helpful all round.

The bathrooms are really dark and often not the cleanest but it is more the circumstances of the people and the build of the house.
I would go back and not just for Mama's delicious crepes in the morning. Hostels are complicated sometimes and it is not easy to create a space that is comfortable and invites people to chat and hang out with each other but The Rising Cock Hostel did great. Even though it is a Party Hostel, it is also quiet enough if you need to relax a bit ( of course it always depends on the people surrounding you) Every night there is a free pub crawl you can join, whenever you want, because they communicate their location always over the WhatsApp group. I was there in the off-season, so I guess it was a bit more quiet but I had a blast and met amazing people I spent the days with. Mama has always some tips if you need some and so far, the beds are the most comfortable hostel beds, I´ve ever slept in. It is funny to see all the different beddings and prints for the beds, it gives the entire room a different charm and makes it feel homey also.

The hostel is located in the right area, the bedroom and bathroon were ok, not great. The lounge was nice, and the vibes with other people were amazing. The guys at the reception were very kind and helpful. Also Mama is very sweet and made awesome pancakes.

Beds and bed sheets
The staff has an amazing vibe and work really hard to bring people together. Everyone is super friendly and open minded. There are cool activities organized every day. Mamma’s pancakes in the morning were just pure love🫶

I had an awesome stay at the Rising Cock Hostel, I met the nicest people and made amazing memories! Everyone was super outgoing so I didn‘t have any problems meeting people since I was solo traveling. Mama was so sweet and made the best Crepes- perfect for the hangovers after the super fun pub crawls at night. The famous Booze Cruise was also definitely worth it! The Hostel is in the perfect place if you want to go party in Lagos since its just a few minutes to walk to the best pubs and clubs but still far enough away to be able to sleep at night (though most people stayed out pretty late: 2-4ish). If partying is not what you’re looking for, I’d recommend staying somewhere else, but that should be pretty obvious due to the name lol:) Anyway I had a great time and I def wanna go back at some point!

The bed was a bit hard and a tad difficult with the stairs (I had the top bunk bed).

There is no AC in the rooms.

Metal beds with average mattresses, no curtains and no power outlets by the beds Showers are often out of warm water during peak shower time in the afternoon

I had a wonderful time at the hostel. Mama is fantastic and so are the volunteers. We felt like we were welcomed into a home not a hostel. It was such a friendly environment and in a perfect location. When we left the staff all came and said goodbye to us, making us feel so special even though the hostel was fully booked out all weekend. I lost my voice and I was given the special lemon tea at breakfast, all homemade and just overall a really beautiful experience.

The only thing I didn't like about the hostel is the beds as they look like they definitely need a change so this could improve the hostel ratings to the top. Also showers are tiny especially if you're 6.4 feet tall you'll be struggling.
It's called a party hostel for a reason and we've met quite a lot of people who were dead friendly. Despite the fact that beds definitely look like they need a change and small showers, a hostel will meet all your other requirements. Good location, vibes, staff dead friendly too.
