Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNothing! Everything was exceptional.
I stayed in the deluxe suite which takes some stairs to get to, but is the only (I think) front facing room that looks onto the square. There is also a view of the interior courtyard, but seeing the square both at night and in the morning was magical. Breakfast was also good. Would highly recommend!

GermanyJust the things that are an unavoidable consequence of the old house: Low ceilings (watch your head), some rooms and in particular bathrooms are small.
A marvellous old traditional house on a very nice, and relatively quiet, square with temples. An enchanting experience, with very friendly and helpful hosts, welcome coffee, and good restaurant. Highly recommended. If available, get the suite in which we stayed one additional night.

New ZealandOnly reason I didn't give 10/10 was the last time we stayed we had a coffee pod machine in our room, we could get up in the morning, make coffee and sit in the window and watch all the activities in the square.
We loved our room cos it looked out over Dattatraya Square.

RussiaThis is not a minus, but a warning: the stairs in traditional houses are very steep, almost vertical. Elderly people and people with leg problems may find it very difficult to get up to their room.
This is not the first visit to Nepal, but for the first time we stopped in Bhaktapur - it’s definitely worth doing! A wonderful, charming hotel in an ancient building on the oldest square in the city. We asked for a specific room and it was kindly provided to us. Everything was exactly as in the photo and even a little better. You must understand that in traditional houses there is no sound insulation and if the windows of your room overlook the square, you will hear 24 hours a day, but you will also be able to watch what is happening from the first row. The hotel is run by a very hospitable family and you can meet and interact with all generations. The service is excellent! Lovely rich breakfast, good restaurant menu and the best coffee. The most delicious yogurt in Nepal, just like “grandmother made.” The rooms are well equipped, comfortable beds, mosquito net (in our room), kettle, coffee maker, drinking water. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel.

This was my second visit to the Peacock and it was just as charming as I’d remembered. It’s a very old house with a warren of rooms and walkways leading to them all. Each guest can squirrel themselves away from the hubbub outside (it was Nepali new year) and rest in the cool and quiet. The owner and staff go out of their way to help with any query and the breakfast and coffee are delicious (esp the royal curd). I’ll be back again one day, I love watching Bhaktapur from the steps outside the house.

BelgiumNot very much :the partition wall between the rooms is too thin, lack of privacy. There could be a hairdryer. The shower needs improvment.

United KingdomUnfortunately one window of our family room overlooking the square (one of only two rooms so positioned) could not close, so the street noise was in the room. But we know about and were reminded of the early morning bell ringing and general activity of the square so cannot complain about that as such.
Our second visit after a seven year gap. It is certainly the most atmospheric, historic small hotel (really a historic building) in Bhaktapur and overlooks the square that is the centre of festival and celebration life of the city (and the least affected by the past earthquake damage and ongoing restoration needs). So tremendous location, with frequent musical processions outside. Free high quality coffee. Breakfast is good. The staff and owner are always responsive.

United KingdomOnly the things one might expect in a very historic building: electrics in our beautiful room, overlooking the square through a round panelled window, were a little eratic. A few sockets needed a wiggle to work well! The shower room was simple but very clean & practical - just don't expect a luxury bathroom. Perfectly fine!
The welcome was wonderful - what a delighful owner & staff. The setting is magical! Right on the square, with views from our room of local people, the temple, & beautiful buildings. The coffee shop in reception serves excellent coffees, cakes & cookies, & coffee is ad lib/unlimited as it was not available in our room. Great! We loved the wood carvings all round the building, the low ceilings (watch your head!), winding stairs, central area where the restauarant was, & the wood carving museum within Peacock Guest House. Breakfast was very nicely presented, & the staff adapted the eggs-to-order for my husand who can't eat eggs. There was fresh fruit, local yogurt, & plentiful coffee. The restaurant served very good food, & service was quick as we waited for our taxi for the airport. Tasty, local, & good value. If you need a quiet place to eat for one of your nights do eat here. The location is great - a characterful square but quiet at night, despite all life happening all around us. History, artistry & welcome. We loved this place & were sad to leave, as it was our last night in Nepal.

United KingdomNothing We were told in advance about city tax (1800Rs pp) and restricted head room so this was absolutely fine for us (husband is 6 foot 3 inches and managed in their top best room).
Amazing guest house in historic building with great ambience and features. Communication before arrival, service during the stay and overall experience was exceptional. If we return to Bhaktapur we would absolutely stay with PGH again. Perfect location to walk to all the main sites. Short walk to town gate to get bus (50Rs pp each way) to UNESCO site, Changu Naryan.

Chinawith its close location to the square, there are locals visiting the temple and ring the bell from around 5am, but that's part of culture to experience to stay in this hotel, and it's not very annoying, better sleep early and wake up early to visit the city.
really authentic Nepali ambience living in the 600 year old hotel, especially the deluxe suite we booked with bay window overseeing the yard and square. very good mantained and comfortable for such old building

United StatesWater pressure was low, which is to be expected. But hot water supply was A+++. A little noisy in the morning because you will hear the street traffic, we woke to the bell at the temple, scooters sound from people going to work, it is a real city.
The guest house was located right at the Dattatreya Square, in a very old building, with all the charms that come with the old city of Bhaktapur. It was always easy to find our way home. Charming room with old windows and cross beams, we were so happy to stay in a traditional Nepalese building. The host was very hospitable, taking your order for food and drinks at at the front desk. Breakfast, coffee, masala tea, black tea, lunch items were great. They even did a wash for us with no charge, above and beyond.

GreeceIt is not something we didn’t like: just keep in mind that if you are looking for a fancy hotel with modern amenities and accessibility, probably it s not for you. The wooden stairs leading to the rooms are steep and narrow, and you cannot avoid having through the old windows some dust and noise from the square. For us, I repeat, it was not a problem at all and we would come back with great joy
Staying at Peacock Guesthouse was an experience on its own! It is a piece of a medieval fairytale brought into the modern world. Not only you feel the history everywhere, but also the artistry of Bhaktapur craftsmen: the wood-carved windows overlooking the oldest square of the town and the temple, the wooden artifacts in the cute courtyard, the craftsman himself working next to the restaurant…. We marveled every minute of our stay there, we tasted a good amount of their great food and we spent literally hours observing this lively town from our windows… If you are in Bhaktapur and you like living in history and art, look no further.
