Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWas not expecting the 300 euro deposit, I paid in full on arrival so I didn't see why it was necessary, expected it to be paid back into my account when I checked out and was told it would be paid back into my account and could take up to 10 days. This was the only negative on what would have been an excellent stay. You should be made aware of this when booking.

CanadaThe room was not what we had requested - a double bed room. We were supposedly upgraded to a smaller room with only a queen bed, which is not what we booked. When I complained we were given another very noisy room over a back alley and a kitchen, which kept us up all night. Also, without two beds - only one.
Food was excellent. Both room service and breakfast were very great.

United KingdomWe paid extra for the breakfast as reading reviews we’ve been told the breakfast is legendary. Much to my wife’s disappointment who is a decaf coffee drinker the Hotel couldn’t supply a nice decaf coffee. The only coffee they could supply as a decaffeinated coffee was instant coffee which I think for a hotel of this caliber is not acceptable, Amsterdam has some great pancake restaurants. It would’ve been nice to have had some fresh pancakes for breakfast instead of heated up shop bought pancakes especially when they were making fresh waffles. Also in my opinion, we both felt the breakfast could’ve been hotter. If I was to stay again I would not book the breakfast. I would go out to eat which I feel would also be better value. Also another incident which we weren’t happy about a bottle of Moet and Chandon champagne had been left in our room as we were to celebrating our silver wedding anniversary we assumed this was complimentary from the hotel as there was no note. We later found out it was our goddaughter who had sent it when we challenge the hotel they actually tried to pass the champagne off as they had sent it complementary as you can imagine we were not very happy. We gave them an opportunity to explain what happened to the note, but they never came back to us!
Location was key and the staff were nice.

United Kingdom5 star rated hotel should have table service for breakfast rather than buffet. We had a premium room with a view of Dam Square, great view but very noisy with windows open. Lighting overall was a bit subdued for our liking

United StatesWe happened to be here on King’s Day weekend, and the hotel felt understaffed at times. Other than that, it was a great stay.
The breakfast was phenomenal and the property was very beautiful and extremely well located. The room was very comfortable. In particular, the shower was wonderful. The cafe downstairs is also fantastic.

United StatesThe room is far too compact. It has a king-sized bed, which I asked for, not realizing. Around the bed there is maybe three feet of space. If you tried to fit a couple in there, it would never work. There is a little tiny narrow desk with a desk chair that you can't pull far enough back without hitting bed to fit your legs under the desk and sit in the chair without twisting it sideways, sitting down, and twisting it straight to write at the desk. They also have one tiny army chair in the corner. Of course the Dutch are famous for getting a lot done with very little space, but this is ridiculous. I've spent a lot of time in Amsterdam and always wanted to stay once briefly at this famous hotel and I expected more. Try the Radisson on Ruslandstraat instead. The breakfast buffet is in this cavernous dining room. Like three or four waiters need to bring coffee to each table, which of course is far from happening promptly through no fault of the waiters trying to cover that much space. I asked a waiter the first day to bring me a pot instead of a cup. He did, very graciously, but he brought me a teapot full , apologizing that that was all they had. In a country famous for its cheese, they could have better options. They have an omelet maker on duty, which is nice, but more than I wanted for breakfast.
OK, here's something you may not read often. So I'm rather deaf, and of course my hearing aids need to recharge overnight and can't be worn when I'm sleeping. I had an early departure from Amsterdam Centraal which is a fifteen-minute walk from the hotel. I left a 6 am wake-up call, but the phone in the room was not set to ring very loudly, so of course I couldn't hear the call at all. At 6:10 I awaken to find myself being gently shaken by this very beautiful young woman, who tells me that when I did not answer the call, she was concerned that something had happened to me overnight. I thank her, being grateful that I was wearing something, and ten minutes later I do hear a phone call that is her checking on me to make sure I have awakened. That's conscientious, don't you think? Of course the story is very Dutch.
