Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Stateseverything was wonderful
The hotel is located very close to the center of Haarlem in a beautifully renovated house from the 1600. The owner is a wonderful host that took great pride in preserving the essence of the old building while creating a modern retreat to rest after exploring the beauty of Haarlem. I would highly recommend staying here where the owner makes you feel like a part of the family.

United KingdomThe sink was blocked in our bathroom however it was still manageable and in fairness to the staff, we didn't report it as we could still use it.
The rooms were unique and clean. Bed was very comfortable

United StatesVery nice boutique hotel in center of Haarlem. Only negative is a lot of stairs that are old so they are curved and steep. Room was spotless. The decor is quirky but unique and has a nice vibe. The manager was very personable and helpful. Breakfast was also very good.

United StatesSee above.
We stayed 4 nights rather than Amsterdam as that city had jacked up its hotel prices above $400/night for KINGS' DAY weekend. It was $290 per night and the room was very large and comfortable. The stairs are steep and narrow so not good for those who are unable to maneuver them with luggage. No elevator. The breakfast was the exact same every morning and quite skimpy on the eggs serving. Not enjoyable for the price. The owner was grumpy and seemed to be not enjoying his job for most of the time. One day his waitress did not show for work so understandable, but the other 3 days he clearly conveyed his dissatisfaction with his work with his demeanor and attitude. Hope he adjusts this as he has developed an interesting old world hotel in a good location with charming features.

United KingdomSome hooks to hang coats would have been handy - we had a lot of rain during our stay. We had a blocked sink that we reported twice, but wasn't rectified. Under the bed needed attention - there was a thick layer of dust.
Great location. Our room was stylish, spacious and bright, overlooking the street. The bed was very comfortable and the settee and table a welcome alternative to sitting on the bed. The bathroom was large with a lovely bath and rain shower.

United KingdomThe staircase is original and therefore very quirky and steep, not recommended for inactive/less able-bodied travellers. But for us, one of the features that made it unique stay
Beautifully restored old building, great care taken with the decor. Very comfortable beds, nice hot showers, excellent breakfast and good advice on local restaurants. Fabulous location, easy access to everything in Haarlem and schipol Airport and train into Amsterdam

United KingdomThe rooms are beautiful but there wasn’t any air con we were there mid April and when the sun was shining it was a little bit warm in the rooms,
The location was perfect, only a 5 min walk to the train station and 20 mins to Amsterdam, the rooms were gorgeous and had everything we needed The staff were also so lovely and it had a nice family vibe when we arrived, and were always there to give directions or answer any questions we had it was perfect!

United KingdomNot applicable as loved my stay.
Amazing quirky and fabulously decorated hotel which is just as fun and interesting as the photos on their website. Such a lovely change from the other hotels in Haarlem. Owner is really friendly and makes you feel welcome. But, if windy stairs are not your thing this hotel may not be for you. I loved it and will be back !!

Couldn't have made a better selection than the MAF! Everything was perfect, couldn't think of one thing we'd change! When we travel back to Amsterdam we will definitely rebook this hotel.

United KingdomAlthough the description says "upper floors accessible by stairs only", we found the narrowness of the treads a little difficult, narrow treads are common in The Netherlands. There are handrails on one side or the other but where the treads are very narrow, and the stair space wide and curved, perhaps handrails on both sides or in the centre would be helpful to less mobile residents. Very friendly staff kindly carried our cases up and down for us, much appreciated. Although our room had a window, unfortunately the view outside was the wall of the next building, approximately 2 metres away.
We didn't have breakfast as relatives live nearby. But it looks like a lovely place to meet up with a friend for a coffee or daytime meal. The rooms were interestingly laid out and decorated, Dutch style, some beams in the ceiling, some period-type furniture, but modern amenities (bathroom, coffee/tea making). It's an unusual old building that has been renovated. We liked that we could pay at the hotel instead of paying in advance. We would definitely stay again.

United KingdomVery step and narrow staircase is not for the infirm and carrying bags down can be a bit challenging. There is no lift. The bedroom was great but the en suite bathroom and separate toilet both had sliding doors that were noisy to use and impossible to open or close quietly at night!
An historic building that continues to be restored sympathetically. A bit quirky and that added to the charm. Centrally located in Haarlem made it easy to walk to the main square but far enough away from the large church to avoid being woken by the bells.

The hotels informal reception area was a desk in the restaurant area with 20 ft ceilings with original decorations from many centuries earlier.
