Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyReally steep staircase, no elevator. Pillows could have been better. Shower mat only upon request. 15h checking and 11am checkout seems to be the new norm but is a bit limiting.
Lovely charming little house, nicely decorated room with attention to detail. Great neighbourhood, walking distance to cafes, restaurants and ie Pieterskerk. Excellent wine choice in minibar.

CanadaThere’s no reception desk or person to greet you and provide advice. Also, anyone with mobility problems would struggle to climb the tiny circular staircase. Street facing room can be noisy (pub on street corner). Garden room was quiet.
Fantastic location, walk from train station, in historic part of Leiden. Lovely, well-appointed room, all the conveniences. Enjoyed the breakfast in the pretty breakfast room.

CanadaOur room was on the top floor and there were 3 flights so stairs to get to it. We had a baby and therefore a lot of luggage and would have been nice to know ahead of time we would have a room with so many stairs.
The location of the hotel is awesome.

I stayed in a cozy room with a fridge and coffee machine. It is a spotless and lovely bathroom with a great shower. Small breakfast area where they cook for you your preferred breakfast. The hotel is in the middle of the historical city center, a beautiful location.

United KingdomThe stairs were super steep, so for the less sure footed, you may want to request a room on the lower floors. Only other small thing was no power point in the bedroom alcove area.
Beautiful building, great location. The room (5) was up in the attic area, with spacious living room area with coffee machine, kettle, small fridge, sofa, tv etc. The shower room was beautifully decorated with a great rain shower. The double bed was in an alcove, perfect for one, but access only from one side. It was so comfortable, great linen. Breakfast was delicious and cooked to order.

CanadaThere’s no reception desk/no one to ask for advice about Leiden. We were on the top floor- the tiny circular staircase would not suit all travellers -best to enquire about this at time of booking. Streetside room can be noisy at night, but garden view are quiet.
I’m adding this to an earlier review. We were bery pleased indeed.

CanadaOur room (“garden view”) was very quiet but the second room we booked (street side) was somewhat noisy at night, with late night revellers and garbage disposal. The host was professional and served a good breakfast but was not available at other times to greet us, recommend restaurants, etc. It felt very impersonal.
Super location, historic street 15-20 min walk from the train station. Close to cafes, restaurants, historic sites. Pretty, well appointed room with comfy bed and great shower.

France€200 is expensive for a provincial town.
Beautiful hotel on one of the nicest spots of the town. Very tastefully made interior, and excellent attention to detail - there were several wines to choose from in the room, there were comfy chairs in front of a gas fireplace.

IsraelI was told in advance so this was not a surprise but the narrow staircase could be an issue for heavier luggage and more frequent use (i left in the morning and returned in the evening so not an issue for me)
Location is super! Very clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful online to solve specific checkin requirements

Saudi ArabiaThe staircase was super steep, but I was helped with my luggage. This could be difficult for some people to manage if they are not having a certain level of fitness.
The location close to Rapenburg and Pieterskerk is amazing and in the heart of the city. The room was perfect and done very nicely with small details for comfort, like having a Nespresso machine in the room.

FinlandI was overall very happy with my stay. Only one minor thing: I noticed that my breakfast cost a few euros more than what was the price printed in the menu, don't know if it was a mistake or something else.
A pleasant little hotel in an excellent location. The room was tidy and quiet. One needs to climb steep stairs to get to the room, but I was aware of this in advance, so it did not come as a surprize. I appreciated the chance to stay in an old Dutch house. The breakfast room was very nice. The service was prompt and friendly.

United KingdomI would have liked the toiletries to be topped up. I was able to request some more, though, so that was all good. I was on the top floor in room 8, up two flights of very narrow winding stairs, which were fine for me - all part of the lovely historic character! - but might be a challenge for the infirm or those with big suitcases.
Lovely hotel, in an old townhouse in central Leiden but not too central (away from the party boats!), on a fairly quiet side street. Nicely decorated and the most comfortable bed I've slept in in a long time! Self check-in and in-person check-out were both easy.

United KingdomThe staircase was very steep and twisted and the steps were not wide enough to put your feet on. Of course the house was old, but a more precise indication should have been given to warn clients. There was no clear indication on the website that there was no reception desk and access was by door code given before travel.
Comfortable and well-appointed room. Excellent position in the old part of the city. Breakfast was available but I did not take it.

United StatesWe chose an inner courtyard view thinking it would be quieter with less street noise, but found that a neighboring bar was hosting a King's Day party on their adjacent courtyard. Ex Libris informed us that the bar had promised the very loud "music" would end at 10 PM, and somewhat miraculously, it did. Based on other reviews, we expected the staircase to our first floor room to be narrow and steep, and it was; but carefully lifting suitcases up a couple steps at a time worked OK.
Excellent location for exploring Leiden. Very clean and comfortable room. Appreciated small refrigerator for wines, and coffee-making facilities. The availability of breakfast at the hotel is a "plus", very handy on days with a busy travel agenda.
