Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThis wasn't a problem, but there were a couple of flights of stairs to our rooms.
It's a lovely kind of quirky and unique hotel. Every room seems to be decorated individually which is fun to see. The food in the restaurant was delicious and interesting. The breakfast itself was wonderful. The staff were very helpful with our luggage and gave us good guidance with getting around.

United KingdomThe restaurant is only open part of the week (not open Friday through to Sunday when we stayed) so on those days there’s no breakfast, although there is a lounge where you can find coffee and an honesty bar (which had bottles of champagne in it!). There claimed to be cake available in the lounge, but the reality was a sorry jar of biscuits and what looked like cubes of fudge. There were also apples. The hotel is decorated in dark colours like a night club and the lighting is really dingy throughout. It has steep dark narrow-tread stairs, so anyone with even slight visual impairment may have problems. We were on the top floor which was difficult with luggage and no lift, so anyone with mobility issues would have a big problem and would be advised to ask for a ground floor room. The room was extremely dimly lit with fashionable industrial style lighting that served no practical purpose whatsoever. The bathroom light was useless for make up. In our top floor room, within the loft space, there were low beams at one end that you had to dodge whilst walking around the bed.
The Boutiquehotel Staats was handy for the railway station and situated on a quiet residential street. We had good communication from the hotel. On arrival day, we were contacted by the hotel to check if we were going to arrive before 11pm as reception closes then, although you can get in and out at any time once you have your key card. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who issued us with tourist maps and advice about the area. The room was on the top floor and was large, with a good sized power shower. Large bottles of toiletries were provided in the bathroom which appeared to be clean but the room was so dimly lit, it was hard to know (see below). Storage was adequate - no wardrobe but an open rail and some open shelving alongside a desk. There was a kettle with basic tea making facilities and a fridge with 2 bottles of water in it. However there was a lounge on the ground floor where you could make tea and coffee, with complimentary biscuits and apples. The industrial theme continued with the decor with the walls covered in blocks of dark wood. There were adequate sockets and charging points by the bed which were in a strange cube dangling out of the wall - another design “thing”?

GermanyWe checked the offered breakfast first thing in the morning and then decided not to have it at the hotel. It will surely meet the standards every other restaurant has to offer and ist the same in price, but it just wasn´t for us so we got breakfast at another place.
We stayed for two nights and the location was perfect. The walking distance both to the main station (to take the train to the beach or Amsterdam), where the parking garage ist located, as well as to the city centre are very short. A huge bonus: the hotel is in a very very quiet street, so the nights were highly relaxing.

United KingdomThere is nothing to dislike.
This is a fabulously unique hotel with extremely friendly, helpful and caring staff. The rooms are very comfortable and well furnished with a nice amount of style. There is also a coffee and games area for guests to use which is very relaxing. Breakfast is also very good. Overall, it is the little extra touches that really make the stay a good experience, which I appreciate each time I stay.

We stayed in two different rooms. They were very different, both very fun and functional. The Living Room was very nice as well and we also ate at the onsite restaurant one night which I would highly recommend.

United KingdomExcellent location, a short distance from both town centre and rail station. A great room in a sympathetically redeveloped building with a stunning interior. Professional and welcoming staff who enhanced our stay considerably. Excellent breakfast -- if we had stayed longer we would almost certainly have tried to book dinner: the restaurant looked very inviting! An all-round great property we will book again when in Haarlem.

United KingdomHonesty bar was a great idea, if a little pricey.
Room was quirky, clean and modern. The shower isn't in a separate room, fine for us but may bother others. Managed to park on the street about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. However paid parking is closer.

CanadaThe room was really unique - moody (in a good way) and interesting. It was also very large by European standards. We were 3 people and had a ton of space. All of the amenities (honour bar, games room, etc) were interesting and the hotel was was really conveniently located.
