It would have been nice to have a TV in the room, but there is nothing to complain about in all honesty.

    Wonderful building and site!

Our room, in the Vicarage, was comfortable and clean, but still rather basic. The hallway in the Vicarage needs some basic TLC such as a new coat of paint.

    Beautiful grounds.

I doubt it could be bettered. A lovely stay in a magical place.

What a beautiful location, a paradise. The house itself is a marvel, and I had never seen Salvador Dali's lobster telephone up close , an added bonus! I shall certainly feel tempted to return for a short course. Sadly we missed breakfast but were provided with a continental style breakfast instead, so kind and unexpected.

Just a few small quibbles. Drinking water was not provided in the room. There was no electric point in the bathroom. Understandably - because of the quirkiness of the building - access to some of the rooms is tricky.

This is the third time we have stayed at West Dean and we love it. The location is fantastic and having unlimited access to the gardens and parkland is priceless. The staff are helpful and friendly and the atmosphere is enjoyably unique.

Upholstery in the grand oak hall has seen better days and is not welcoming to sit in, which is a pity as the room itself is spectacular. Breakfast had a decent range of options but was let down by the food being lukewarm rather than hot. In the room, the ancient wooden sash windows didn't close fully - not a huge issue in spring but winter could be another matter.

Superb parkland setting, impressive main halls, extraordinary historical tapestries. Spacious and comfortable room, freshly painted, with a very comfortable bed and reading light. Very welcoming and genuinely cheerful staff. Not your ordinary b and b. An unusual and very lovely pick in a delightful area of the country.

The room was a little dated

The grounds and building are amazing. Beautiful walks close by and the décor of the building is like walking through hogwarts.

Included breakfast could have been improved - all the food is kept under the hot plate, so gets a little dry. Freshly cooked breakfast would have been a great additional benefit

Room was a little overheated when I arrived, had to turn it off so I could sleep.

Gorgeous exceptional grounds, helpful staff. Appropriately traditional, no television or bells and whistles, but that is not why you stay there anyway.

The staff were very helpful, friendly and polite, especially the dinning room staff who gave us a warm welcome. The breakfast and evening meals were lovely, freshly cooked, locally sourced and a delicious vegetarian option. Our accommodation was spacious and comfortable. The grounds and parkland are beautifully looked after and have options for long or short walks plus access for all abilities. The West Dean Tearoom has a good choice for lunches and snacks, freshly baked cakes and friendly helpful staff. The kitchen garden and greenhouses are beautifully tended and knowledgeable staff are on hand for guidance. We will definitely return.

Went to the local pub for a meal to find they weren't serving and then went to college eatery and was charged £24 for a bowl of salad and small pudding. Didn't seem right

We were happy with our stay.

Excellent location. You are given a lot of freedom within the building to look at the works of art, to sit in the lovely oak panelled lounge or the dining/bar area. Helpful staff. You are able to explore the grounds any time.

Buildings are old so some noise from room above. Breakfast was well cooked but they serve you from a buffet so small portions and toast beans and mushrooms all at best lukewarm.

Stuning location and interesting buildings. Staff friendly and helpful.
