How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

International phone did not receive the code for self check-in. Phoned William who was extremely helpful but time was wasted from our day.
The room was fabulous and great effort made with decor and cleanliness.

A very clean and comfortable room. Nicely decorated. Nice breakfast. William is very nice and helpful. Location is very good and convenient. Will be back to stay if we are in the area.

Great location, clean, great communication from the host with key codes for hassle free access, breakfast was lovely, my daughter and I had everything we needed for a comfortable, friendly, 2 night stay.

Unfortunately, our room was right on the road ,very noisy earplugs provided, but due to ear condition could not wear .

As my mum said, it needs a lift,haha. Room could've done with more sockets.
The breakfast was excellent, all the food fresh and hot. I thought it was going to be closer to sea front than it was, but no real problem.

There was nothing that we didn’t like. Everything was what we expected. A very good b&b.
The room was very clean. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. The Montana looks very clean and tidy from the outside. Ideal place to stay for our visit to Torquay. Keep doing what your doing William.

The breakfast was good, but no yogurt, fruit or marmalade. The wardrobe in the bedroom was awfull. Very little hanging space. And couldn't hang dresses up.
The cleanliness. Nice friendly owner.

A very comfortable 2 night's. Very understanding of my booking beforehand. The owner responded well. The room was spotless and modern, and so was the rest. Nice part of Torquay to stay. Breakfast was lovely, too. Nice accommodating host. Would recommend.

Only problem was the parking, had to find a space down a side street as no on site parking
Breakfast was very nice, William makes you feel welcome, clean and modern guest house and location is very good, definitely recommend to anyone to stay here.

All was good. Wish there was more choice of TV channels. Netflix would have been cherry on the cake after a long day of activity and walks.
Perfect location for our requirement, Excellent breakfast and the host William was very helpful with the local knowledge.

It was a good stay and I have nothing further to add
I stayed at The Montana from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st May 2023. I was attending The royal British Legion Annual Conference that was being held at The Riviera Centre. The location of The Montana was perfect. it was approximately 5 minutes walk to and from the Conference Centre. The security for the place was good, key that had to be retrieved from the key box, using a code number. The key was then use for opening the front door and my bedroom door. My room was clean and comfortable , the bathroom had everything that I needed and the walk in shower was excellent. The system for ordering breakfast on both mornings was very efficient. I dhose what I wanted from the list provided and it was freshly cooked as per my order. The food was very tasty and I have no complaints whatsoever. In summary I was completely happy with my choice of The Montana.William was excellent in his preparation of the breakfast and he was very helpful in advancing breakfast times due to the timings in the Conference daily programme.. Well Done- The Montana is on my radar for the future.
