How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

So sorry….. when the restaurant got very busy at peak times it was obvious there was a struggle … It is a bit out of the way if you have no car but we got around on foot & took taxi to Highclere….
The Hare & hounds exceeded our expectations, although the bedroom was small , it was exactly true to pictures . This place is oozes character! We were able to walk into Newbury & Donnington Castle. The food was amazing, the menus available throughout the day/evening certainly did not disappoint, service was excellent & Max was indeed an excellent host - not forgetting the young ladies in the restaurant who were excellent & so friendly & professional. The outside eating area was a bonus given the weather & a chef on the barbecue on the bank holiday weekend…. Let’s say the icing on the cake!!! Food was 10/10 ….. from start to finish…. Bravo !

The restaurant was very busy and service a bit slow but the staff were so nice it really didn’t matter.
A beautifully styled comfortable hotel. The staff were beyond friendly. Just lovely.

Beautiful hotel, loved the decor and all the little touches like pillow spray and toiletries. bed is super comfy with quality bedding. Restaurant and bar lovely cozy surroundings, well thought out. Food was to a really high standard, wines reasonably priced and high quality. Nailed it. My dog also had a great stay!!!

There was a mix up at checkin where I was given keys to room that was occupied, I disturbed the person staying in the room by walking in on them as they were getting out the shower which was embarrassing and I apologised and went back to reception and was given a different and this time empty room but I would have liked to receive an update on the startled guest to let me know that it was explained that it wasn't my fault.
The room was exceptionally clean and very lovely decorated. The breakfast was really good, if there was good coffee and fresh juice it would be fantastic. Lots of secure free parking

I'm being picky but with breakfast, fresh juice and good coffee would make this a perfect stay.
Beautifully decorated and clean accommodation, breakfast is really good, Freddie breakfast off and free parking.

All brilliant 🤩
A lovely comfortable room with lots of nice touches - coffee machine, two big bottles of water . The restaurant was very good. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Not a complaint but the room is snug, but didn't spoil our stay.
From the minute we arrived the hospitality was first class. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant were clean and sevice spot on. The restaurant manager was particularly attentive and made our evening.

There were no negatives
The location was perfect . We brought our dog and she was made welcome by all the staff . The room was lovely , clean and spacious. There was no dog smell in the room . The whole room was excellent.

The bedroom was small with single chair and a small side table. The bathroom was also very small.
The property was well located, modern, well equipped and well presented. The parking was good with a space adjacent to our room.

The staff are wonderful and it’s got a lovely ambience. The restaurant was outstanding.
