What a wonderful place. The location by brotherswater amongst the mountains is fantastic, easy to get to, and a must for any hillwalking fans. The car park is spacious and the road leading up to it via Ullswater is easy. From the moment we arrived and checked in we were looked after as though we were the only people there, our stay throughout had a really personal touch. It is very much recommended to book a table as it does get busy for evening meals, but we were given a lovely table both nights with spectacular views and the food is delicious, big portions and real pub classics available. The room is very comfortable and also affords excellent views. We can't wait to go again and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff (all of them) who were attentive, informative, and offered such charm and care in everything they did. I've never been so well treated and felt so relaxed on a break in the Lakes, 5 stars all the way.

We really can't think of any negative points to say about our stay here.

The staff at the Inn were absolutely brilliant, always around if needed and very helpful....not only with matters Inn related but an excellent source of local knowledge too. We ate at the Inn for four nights and we never had a bad meal be it dinner or breakfast. The portion sizes were more than value for money. Booking for dinner is a must and the window seats offer a fantastic view (see the sunset photo!) The room was adequate and also had a brilliant view while providing us with an exceptionally comfortable bed which was needed after the food! There are no photographs of the food, as we were too busy eating what was in front of us.

Our stay was fantastic a couple of v minor points that would make it even better. Replace shower gel sachets with refillable bottles or equivalent. Just hard to open and more sustainable. Reading light above the bed mean you bang your head. Reposition over bedside tables.

Unpretentious, what they do is done really well. Cooked breakfast was excellent. Evening menu typical pub food but again done very well. Room was spotlessly clean. Staff really friendly and couldn’t do enough.

Walls are very thin so you can hear anyone in the next room, but was no bother for us and the guests next door were pretty quiet.

My wife likes big towels after a shower.

We liked the location. We liked how it was pitch black outside no lights so we could view the stars. All the staff are friendly and approachable with knowledge of what is around the area. If you book a table for dinner, there is no time frame or hassle to eat up. The log fire keeps you warm especially after a cold, wet day. A good cooked breakfast to order. All meals were hot and have not sat under heat lamps. The rooms are clean and tidy.
