Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere was nothing to dislike. Perhaps the external fire escape as an entrance wouldn't have been nice in the rain.
Very comfortable feeling like home from home. Warm with nice carpets. Well equipped, clean and modern. Even had a garage to park in.

FranceNot much to say about any downside. Just a little comment for interested people with mobility issues: there seems to be a flat on the ground floor and another on the first floor. Verify which one you are getting if this is an issue for you. We stayed in the one above and it was perfect for us.
For us, the place was impeccable. It was well equipped, very comfortable and decorated tastefully. The host was responsive and friendly, as well as the gardener who shared tips and suggestions for places to visit. We had plenty of bath and kitchen towels, which was nice. The location was excellent. Just a short walk from the main street of Penrith and near the shops we wanted to visit. The flat was the perfect combination of old world charm and modern convenience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I am giving it my personal max of 9 (just because I think as a matter of principle that things can always be improved).

New ZealandThe styling wasn't modern but that's nothing to complain about.
The place was very well equipped, warm, light and well located. I walked from the train station, no problem. It had so much more than I needed and instructions for everything.

United KingdomOnly to point out to less mobile people that the metal staircase up to top of apartment carrying luggage to the top can be a bit tricky.
The location of the property to the town was excellent the shops, bars, restaurants all within short walking distance. Parking in a garage was a bonus. The bedroom furniture was very tasteful & classy. Host was very accomodating for an early arrival.

A really nice and well equipped flat. A quiet location with off-street parking in a garage. Penrith is a convenient location for Pooley Bridge and Ullswater.

AustraliaThe stairs. Don’t remember being warned about them when booking but there should definitely be a clear message that the apartment is two storeys up and accessed by an open external metal stairway.

United KingdomAll good.
This is a lovely apartment at the top of an old rectory. It was spotlessly clean, very comfortable, warm and with everything we needed for a week's stay, with the added bonus of glorious views over the Autumn hills surrounding Penrith. The host, Darren, was superhelpful and welcoming, (we had a van and kayaks that wouldn't fit in the garage space allocated to the flat, and he made it seem like no problem at all). The apartment is in a great location for walking into town but still quiet and peaceful. It's at the top of the house, and there are 34 stairs up an outside fire escape to navigate, so you need to be able to manage stairs, but they are well-lit and not at all slippy even in the wet weather we experienced!

United KingdomSignificant staircase to get to the flat and difficulty in parking our 'upgraded' hire car in the garage. However, we were able to find parking nearby, in the road opposite, although it was up a steep hill outside the controlled parking zone. Aware that we could have got a disc but then would have had less time to explore.
Welcome pack provided. Flat very comfortable, 'home away from home' although we tended to spend a lot of time out enjoying the nice weather and only really used the facilities in the morning and evening. It was located close to the town centre and all amenities and was a great base to explore the lakes and surrounding areas.

United KingdomNothing - it's hard to see how this apartment could be improved.
The apartment is situated on a quiet road within easy walking distance of the centre of Penrith. The facilities were superb and we had everything we needed for a two-week stay, including a washing machine. The owner, Darren, had left us some supplies including milk and tea bags which was great because it meant that we could have a cuppa straight away without having to go shopping. We actually met Darren and he was a really friendly and helpful host. The apartment was immaculate and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We highly recommend this apartment if you want to stay in Penrith, with its excellent access to the Lake District.
