The room was very warm at night, and the air conditioning was not too effective.

The room was a reasonable size for a couple, and the hotel facilities were very good. The breakfast was good, especially for my wife who is gluten intolerant.

Poor choice of food in the Restaurant which was very expensive. Lack of seats and loungers in the pool area. A charge for hotel guests to use the pool seems unnecessary and not on-line with other hotels

Excellent location. Very clean room. Friendly and helpful staff on reception and the pool area.

    Bar area could be smarter

Good variety at breakfast, scrambled egg did not look tempting. Location suited my needs- not far from train station or crematorium which was the reason for my visit.

The room had a dirty cup in it when we arrived, the TV was pretty outdated and lacked a menu system and the shower drain made an awful noise the whole time it was in use. Having to pay extra for parking and use of the swimming pool decreases the value for money.

Good setting, comfortable bed, helpful staff.

Reception on arrival a little slow. Dealing with a few argumentative guests. One ignorant man in particular. Rang me complaining that I’d not paid. No milk or tea in the room. Went to reception to resolve both issues. Screenshot money transfer from my bank the previous day. Gave me the tea and a nice complimentary drink voucher. Sadly on return in the evening the Diet Coke in the vodka was totally flat and ruined the drink. Heading to bed I let the bar person know, so someone else didn’t get the same. I wasn’t bothered, but it obviously sunk in as I’ve put it here.

Location, look and feel of the hotel, quality of some of the facilities and features.

Bedrooms a little tired with lots of scuff marks and stains on carpet and chairs but beds super comfortable. The charge of £10 per visit for the swimming pool is unreasonable for guests.

Nice welcome and great staff interactions, throughout the the stay. Breakfast simple but plenty of it. Location is perfect for walking into town or down to the quayside.

There were several broken streetlights on the footpath on the way there which was a bit intimidating arriving in the dark, and approaching on foot it was hard to find the entrance. The restaurant was shut when I arrived tired and hungry shortly after 9pm. Somehow there was a mixup and I ended up having to pay £16.50 for a breakfast that was Ok but no way was it worth that - I felt ripped off. Especially since the room rate was not cheap. And I was woken up at 6am on Sunday by people being very loud outside my room, which was very frustrating - probably not so much the hotel's fault I guess. Another thing that probably wasn't the hotel's fault was that I was unable to get a taxi either to or from the hotel - the companies I tried all said no availability.

The room was spacious, and the bed was comfortable. The location was handy. It felt reasonably decent quality. The curtains covered the window, which I do appreciate, and the bathroom was clean and pleasant.

When I booked the property the swimming pool and spa facilities were advertised and documented as being included in the price for guests. However, when I arrived with the group we were informed that we would have to pay £10 per person to use the swimming pool and spa facilities.

Great location, perfect for exploring Exeter! Petra the Manager was amazing in dealing with our complaint regarding the use of the swimming pool and spa facilities. She provided each of our group of 8 with a free drinks voucher to use at the bar, which went a long way in dealing with our complaint.

I stay at Southgate regularly mainly because of the swimming pool, but now they charge £10 entry. So, with paying extra for the swimming pool together for car parking, it was more than my budget. In the future, i will consider somewhere else further away from town that offers both the facilities free and paying for parking in town as and when needed. A bit disappointing. The restaurant food was average this time and not a lot of choice.

A convenient location and a comfortable stay. Kettle and fridge in the room was welcome.

Please ask the staff to provide pots of tea , properly prepared with fresh boiling water and jugs of cold milk.

SORRY - WRONG BOX I do have issues about the breakfast . Although the cups and saucers on the table were of a good quality , they were far too small for a breakfast cup of tea. I also had to carry two sets of them all the way to the buffet and make 2 cups of tea with water that was NOT freshly boiled. I then had to manage the milk situation. There were no jugs provided. I am usually half asleep when I have breakfast and to have to manage all that ( when I am paying a lot of money for a decent hotel ) is just not acceptable to me. A relaxing decent cup of tea to start the day is essential when I am considering booking The Mecure again.
