The shower in our room (room 11) was so low on the wall (under a pitched roof) you had to sit down.

Ideal for what we needed for a night in Newcastle for a friend's 30th birthday. The reception is listed as 24/7. That doesn't mean that someone is always at the reception - rather you can call the reception staff 24/7 and then they travel over - which took 30mins in our case so we could get a towel.

Just a couple of points. The website entry was misleading as there was no 'comfortable common room' as pictured, just plastic chairs in the kitchen area. There was no coffee machine and there were no board games. The kitchen area would be very small if the hostel was busy. The room and beds were comfortable, but reading lights and a small shelf for each bed would make a difference to ease of use. The provided linen was good - we were a bit surprised to have to pay a small amount extra for towels. No major problems though.

The location was fine and only a short walk from city centre. The staff member was friendly, welcoming and helpful. The room was warm and clean. The kitchen was quite well equipped and it was clean. The on-road free parking worked well. As a hostel it was absolutely fine and we would certainly use it again.

The location was good being only 15 min walk from the station. The rooms were clean and facilities were good. The staff were friendly and we felt very safe in the hostel. This was my first time staying in a hostel and it exceeded expectations.

The unexpected deposit request and lack of towels were the only reason I wouldn't rate it higher. I think this is totally reasonable for the cost but just would be helpful to make this clearer in the booking details so we could have brought towels and cash with us.

This place is brilliant value for Newcastle! The beds were comfy and the rooms were clean. We had the twin room on the top floor and didn't have any noise disturbance at all. The room was dark enough and cool enough for a good night's sleep. The guys at reception were friendly and it was great to have access to the kitchen and ice for drinks.

Breakfast needs to be arranged by customers but you can make coffee or tea using equipment in the house. The host was really friendly and willing to help.

The shower pressure was too low and you have to pay £1 for a towel. The bathroom door needed a knob for the lock on one side. There were no tea and coffee facilities provided in the room. The customer service of the man during the first night could have been better. The TV remote didn't work so I used the buttons on the TV. Not too many places near it for food.

The bed was comfy. The room was clean and it wasn't too loud in the other rooms. It was good value for money on a football weekend. It's close to St James Park. The manager seems like a nice guy who is happy to help

We loved the fact that we could store our bikes securely at the back. The owner was very helpful and interesting to chat to! Room was clean and the beds comfy. Location was also great!

Didn't like having to pay a deposit once here!

Nice 2 big rooms for 10 of us! A little worried about bad reviews from guests, we had no problems, guy at the desk was lovely, took some photos for us.

WiFi didn't work in our room. States when booking that there is satellite TV in rooms however we could only get one chanel. No soap provided. It states when booking that rooms are sound proofed, however this wasn't the case with our room. Bathroom floor could be cleaner. The lady that checked us out was quite rude. Don't feel that the experience was worth the £100 that we paid.

The staff when checking in were quite friendly. Beds comfortable. Within walking distance to city centre.

Shower in top floor room was impossible due to slanted ceiling. On checkout was accused of losing a key and lost deposit, only given 2 keys for our room and 2 keys were handed back to reception on morning of checkout, otherwise a good stay.

I didn’t realise it was a backpackers There were dirty dishes and frying pay with a teabag in it in the kitchen It was there the 2nights I was there It was cold and they reluctantly put the heating on but it was automatic and it didn’t come on till 8pm The were also many bags of linen in the kitchen There was also no manager on site which would have been a problem if I hadn’t told them about the heating It was in a good location but it was at the top of a very steep hill The local cafe The Moulin Rouge was just lovely for breakfast and they said they were open for dinner to

Ask for breakfast, which is included in price (our was). Nobody told us, we had to ask. It is served on restaurant few minutes walk from hostel. It was cold inside the room. No heating.

Rooms were advertised as sound proofed. Maybe the walls were but the windows and doors were not. Room in upper floor had very low ceiling in bathroom.

Host was very good. Helpful, communicative and genuinely interested in serving the guests.
