Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Hong Kong1. The door lock of our room made a loud click sound no matter how careful we closed the door. It made us unable to sleep well at night. 2. The upper bed of the bunk bed is loose, so when the person on the upper bed moves, it creates sounds that is very disturbing.
The location is really convenient. The staff are friendly, especially the lady we met on the first day. She gave us many suggestions on the attractions.

AustraliaThe bed linen was well worn. The bathroom and kitchen facilities were also well used but everything was good enough and for the money it was great.
Really convenient location. Comfortable, had everything you would need. Staff were friendly.

FranceI had a noisy room with a windows on the main street and the old windows didn't help.
I really liked the vibe. It's a small hostel with a big kitchen which facilitates meeting new people. As a solo female traveler I felt very safe and confortable so a big up to the team!

PolandIt is a typical cheap bacpacker place, so do not expect too much - it matches the price. The biggest minus is that there are only 2 toilets and showers - not big, plus additional 2 in mixed bathrooms - it could get crowdy, if more people are leaving at the same time. It is also not quiet - close to street, you will hear cars and people coming from bar crawls - just be prepared for that:)
Hostel has a great location right at The Royal Mile, so close to most attractions and to bus and train station. Personel is friendly and provides additional activities. They have towels inclided in price. It is a typical backpacker place with kitchen access. Place is not to big, but works fine for people on budget.

United KingdomSlightly hard to find as it's up a set of stairs that shares with an Indian restaurant. Other than that it's a tidy hostel at a good price.
Cheap as chips. Location is fantastic on the royal mile. 2 mins from Hive (if you know you know). Was perfect for a night out in Edinburgh as we could come and go as we please. Nice entrance area. Secured lockers per person. Shared bathroom was nice enough. Does what it says on the tin for £20 a head.

United StatesNothing they can do about it but there’s not much lounge space and they do say you can hang out at a sister property. The lounge areas were rather cold.
The location is awesome. Staff was really great. Nice that you can store luggage at a nearby sister property. Good bathrooms.

United KingdomThe rooms were not very spacious. It was a bit compact.
The rooms were situated in a great location, making it convenient to reach both the bus and railway stations. They were definitely worth the price, offering comfort, and the staff was incredibly friendly. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there

GermanyBathrooms are too small for the hostel, and there aren't enough stalls/showers available in the busy hours (morning/evening) so be ready to fight for a queue space hahaha
The location was AWESOME! The rooms are quiet and tidy, check-in was easy even with us getting there way past midnight. Wi-fi worked pretty well :)

FranceThe bed was a bit too hard to my taste, and pressure in the shower maybe a bit too low but it was working perfectly otherwise.
Very friendly, helpful and accommodating staff, family atmosphere and interesting social activities, good location in the city, great value for money! I would definitely come back if I ever find myself in Edinburgh again!

United StatesThe Wi-Fi cut out and didn’t come on until morning. One of our locker keys was missing so we only had one to share between two people. The pillows were very flat (I know that is a personal preference though).
The staff were friendly and the room was very nice. Unfortunately I don’t have much to say because I got there and crashed without much interaction, but the experience overall was very good.

CanadaOur locker was broken and didn’t close properly, there are only 4 showers total, 2 in the female-only bathroom and 2 in the all-genders bathroom, but 1 of the showers in the all-genders bathroom was broken and so there was only one shower available.

United KingdomI hope the work staff and volunteers there will be more professional in the future.
The location is great. I just know one female volunteer who is always smelling is great and a male volunteer who plays Guitar is great. Staying in a hostel with this kind of work staff is more important than what the place you stay at looks like.

United KingdomThe windows didn't do a great job at keeping out external sound sadly. The bed wasn't the comfiest to sleep on, might just be the mattress was a bit hard.
The themed rooms are a nice touch. The lockers are a good size for storage and they came with a safe although I never used it. There's plenty of space under the bed for bags. Bed came with a light and sockets Free earplugs at the front desk. They weren't the best but they were also free so i can't complain. Cozy reception area with board games and couches Fantastic location in the old town not even 10 mins walk from the main station. The room cost 20 quid a night!

SloveniaThe cleanliness of this hostel left a bit to be desired.
Probably one of the best hostels I've stayed in so far. The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting and the kitchen and living room are a big plus. The location also made our stay so much easier as it is in the very heart of the old town so all major attractions are within walking distance.
