Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomMain hotel rather 'faded' and needing some refurbishment to brighten it up a bit!
Lovely setting, newly refurbished beautiful apartment and not too formal. Unpretentious but well-cooked and plentiful food with very friendly and helpful staff.

United KingdomNothing springs to mind!
Wonderful setting with super views. Grounds well kept. Would have sat out on the terraces but it was too cold. Delicious breakfast, eggs benedict and eggs royale. It was a chill-out break so we sat and read in either the bar or very comfortable side lounge. Our evening meals were delicious, excellent value for money so we ate in the restaurant both nights. Extremely attentive and delightful staff, faultless. Room 10 at the top of the hotel was spacious with a kitchen area, although the bathroom is small (no bath). Love this hotel, love the coffee with free scones/cream/jam touch and it will now be our chill-out destination in the lakes. If we were getting married again, we'd get married here!

United Kingdomthe stairs to the room started off ok but the further up you went the steeper and narrower they got, i would not like to bring anything bigger than a 'carry on' bag up them. being a old(er) house the hot water did take a little while to arrive when you turned on the tap, this didn't really bother me but can see some people getting impatient with it.
was given a room at the top of the house, with wood beams and the room was very big as was the bathroom with a bath and separate shower, parking was easy and all close to the front door, the views from the house and garden were great, breakfast was super. good wifi in my room. all the staff i dealt with either on the phone before my stay or during my stay were very good

United KingdomThe Mews cottage was smaller than I thought, only seen the cottages online with two bedrooms so was surprised that our cottage was essentially just one big room meaning cooking smells travelled throughout. The induction hob and combined microwave and oven were exceptionally modern but too complicated to make use of when you're only there for a break, I didn't want to spend my time away reading cooker manuals 😬 we persevered and got them working eventually!!! Would have been really useful to have a coat hook or stand especially when staying in winter months.
Clean, modern and comfortable with great heating and great bathroom with powerful shower. Very close to everywhere we wanted to be for sight seeing and local restaurants. We didn't have much interaction with the hotel staff but when we did see them they were very attentive and friendly giving great service.

United KingdomI'm just not a fan of pre-ordered breakfasts. I'm also not a fan of attic bedrooms due to a lack of view. Sadly the velux window had accidentally been left open, and radiator was not on, so room cold at first (it was February) but it warmed up. I'm sure if I had mentioned it to the staff they would have moved me to another room so that's my fault!
Beautiful building. Good quality bed in a traditionally furnished room befitting the building. The breakfast was very tasty. The bathroom was magnificent.

United KingdomThe menu was a little limited however it is understandable considering the pandemic we have been through and peoples hesitancy to stay in Hotels etc even now. It would have been nice if the cooked breakfast had been served 30 minutes earlier but again you dont want to pay a cook if only one person is up at that time so not really a complaint and it helped my waistline.
I had to take the grab and go breakfast as i had to leave early but it was very good. Good location, evening meal was really good quality and well cooked excellent staff.

United KingdomNothing. Only suggestion might have been to put another single bed, even if only a simple camp bed, into the family room so you can have 2 adults and 2 children. We were a family of 4 and had to take 2 large doubles because the family room has 1 large double and one single.
Huge family room with the most amazing views across the valley. Very picturesque and peaceful location. We had the full Cumbrian breakfast and it was fantastic. Very friendly staff. Felt very covid safe.

United KingdomCupboard in room was a bit dated, walls are quite 'thin' in terms of privacy, variety of tea and coffee in room was limited. Breakfast was ok but not as good as some, especially given it was pre-ordered / cooked to order but appreciated they gave us the green & decaffeinated tea we asked for.
Large shower, bed was comfortable, views from windows. Dinner was excellent.

United KingdomEverything was lovely and clean but the main chair in the lounge had a large stain on the material which I thought could be cleaned. For a luxury apartment you really expect the furniture to look nice.
The location was stunning, especially if you stay at the hotel and the gardens are gorgeous. Most peaceful place to stay, you don't hear anything for miles and you don't see/hear the neighbours.

A beautifully appointed and well thought out luxary apartment on the edge of The Lake District. The grounds and views were stunning and the apartment provided privacy, a cosy atmosphere and a private garden to sit out in. More than worth the money, I couldn't recommend it enough.
