Hardly any toilet roll in room, had to ask for more and were beer cans outside our window the whole time we were there.

Never been before but recommended by a friend. It was lovely, clean, quirky and staff were very helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was fresh and cooked well. We ate in the pub both nights and that was super too. We will be back

Would have been nice to have been informed that you have to pay for use of towels in spa. We could have brought our own if we had known. Would have been nice to have a fridge in room and bottle water.

The room was quiet despite a wedding going on in another part of the hotel. The Spa was great. When there was a problem in the room (power cut) reception came to sort straight away. Elemis shower gel.

Unfortunately the bed in our room was quite uncomfortable and suffered from 'roll together '. Luckily we were moved to another room as the curtain rail fell down in our original room! The second bed was more comfortable. The breakfast buffet was nice enough but lacking in variety. Overall the property is showing its age and could probably benefit from some tlc.

The Cloisters spa facilities were really nice, we enjoyed two visits there during our stay. The adjoining Pub The Fat Abbot was a lovely location for a relaxing drink with nice outdoor seating for the lovely weather we had. The Manager and his team were all very friendly attentive & welcoming. Sunday lunch was really good and plentiful. The staff in the main hotel were all very pleasant and helpful.

the only improvement would be to be allowed to use the facilities in the spa after check out time. check out is 11am and if you have breakfast there is no time left to be able to use the facilities before you leave.

If we wanted a cappuccino for breakfast we had to pay £1 extra even though breakfast was included. I don’t agree with paying a ‘towel hire’ fee for towels in the spa.

Our small rooms on arrival but they were quickly changed for us.

When we arrived we were given quite small rooms towards the back of the main hotel. We were then tranferred to The Couch House I think, where the rooms were much bigger, brighter and had walk in showers in both our rooms. The breakfast were very good and the staff very very friendly. The spa facilities were great and we had treatments every day. We also ate in the restaurant in the evenings and enjoyed all our meals.

It was outdated , not the cleanest and we had to go outside to go to the swimming pool that lacked a lot of beds for the guests

Coffee at breakfast - what is it about hotels and coffee at breakfast that is so hard?

Spa facilities excellent, especially steam rooms and sauna. Well equipped gym. Really good staff, in both Hotel and Spa, and special mention for Elaine, who was so welcoming on our arrival and on breakfast duty during stay.

Creaky floorboards in Coach house. Attached pub (The Fat Abbot), was lacking in atmosphere.

Good location just outside of York (bus stop 3 minute walk, bus ride 15 minutes). Room was a good size. Pubs and Thai restaurant close by. Breakfast was very good. Staff were excellent. Spa pool and steam rooms (4) very good.

Room was cold. A very small heater only worked when key card was in so when we left the room, the heater went off and the room was freezing again by the time we got back from meal. Wi-Fi was poor although it was free.

Location was excellent. A really good walk into York. Fantastic breakfast. I didn’t use the Spa since the weather was so nice but it looked pleasant.

From the reception to the room was a bit of a track through various parts of the hotel especially when you have cases. The leisure facilities are also outside the hotel in a building close by but we still had to walk through a room full of wedding guests to get through the hotel. This was embarrassing for us in our leggings with towel in hand and them in their suits and occasion wear.

The room was lovely, comfortable and clean. The breakfast was fantastic, plenty to choose from and tasted delicious.

Like some previous reviews, the place looks a bit tired & could do with a fresh coat of paint & some updates within the rooms, it wouldn't take much to have it sparkling but overall it was clean & comfortable.

Onside pub a bonus, spa facilities & pool were excellent, staff very pleasant, grounds beautiful, rooms perfectly adequate & comfortable.
