Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomSmall bathroom, very little loo roll. Tea/coffee not replenished on second day. Had to pay £6 for entrsnce to spa facilities, which were in poor condition. Paid £5 extra per day for parking! Didn’t like the neon sign on roof of hotel, rather down market.
Lovely big room, but it had two extra beds in it which detracted from the size as only wanted room for two. Nice breakfast.

United KingdomThe room was really cramped and had the ventilation ducts right outside. The lady who booked us in was more interested in chewing her gum than providing a decent service. The queue to the bar was so long we ended up going into town.
The location is superb and the reception area and bar are really nice. There was a pianist in the evening who was great.

United KingdomNo bedside lamp or any way to control the lighting from the bed - luckily I always carry a torch for emergencies. No plug socket near the bed to plug a phone charger in - just sockets diagonally opposite with the tea and coffee making facilities. Scruffy narrow 2* bathroom not particularly clean but passable, no extract, "curtain" shower above bath, took ages to get any hot water, heat/flow sensitive to adjacent rooms running water, mismatched top on the toilet cistern, very slow draining plumbing.
Size of the room - I expected a "compact double room" to have a standard 4'6" bed in it, rather than a 6' bed. Nice to get biscuits and bottled water too, as well as the usual tea and coffee making facilites. Nice "grand" public areas, reception, bar, gardens, setting.

United KingdomCleanliness in room and information about food in restaurant. Being told by restaurant staff 3 course meal was £31 but £25 if booked at check in. However at check in this was not mentioned.

United KingdomThere was a noise outside which could be heard from our room after bedtime. No exact idea what it was,but maybe something electrical? There was a fousty smell in the bathroom. There was no window to air it and the tiny extractor fan was broken. We did report it, after we realised the fan was indeed there.
The location is very good. Very grand building.

United KingdomIf disabled, this may not be the place for you. There is a lift but its very slow and unreliable during busy times.
The location is perfect. Within 5 mins walk to the train station. Beautiful hotel filled with character. Some may see this as outdated but I prefer this to everything painted grey these days. Rooms very quiet. We had a top floor room with a wonderful view out front.

United KingdomThe room was very dark as at the back of the building with a huge tree outside and inferior lighting . Tree blocked all the light & couldn’t open window as we didn’t want the insects coming in . It should be screens to prevent this . Due to no light anywhere near the mirror in the bedroom it was impossible to style hair or apply makeup- needs a light in that area. No fan in bathroom so couldn’t do makeup there either. Mixed messages about 3 course evening meal being offered at £25 but menu only available after 5pm . At 6pm no menu at reception so directed to restaurant. No - one knew about this . Turned out to be carvery only at £30.
It was a beautiful hotel & well placed in the middle of Buxton

United KingdomPaying £5.00 to park when. I've already paid £148.00 to stay. Understaffed. Staff being rude to guests and complaining about other staff calling in sick to work. Chaotic breakfast. Having to wait for staff to wash plates. No fresh orange juice.
Setting was lovely. Communal areas were lovely. Bedrooms clean but need updating.

United KingdomThe fact that everything extra had to be paid for such as Wi fi and parking…….hwever the room was great value so these extras being chargeable is entirely understandable. The most annoying thing was being charged to phone the hotel. My mobile couldn’t do it as it has no extras so I couldn’t speak to anybody before booking in
Great value and nice room. Loved the coffee machine and toiletries. Very clean. Great location

United KingdomBreakfast was too hectic with not enough room between furniture to move around. Teapots were hidden and everybody was making really small cups of tea and coffee meaning more trips. Perhaps staff should serve the hot drinks to reduce floor traffic. I would prefer the option of breakfast in the conservatory.
Great building and original features. Great bar and seating areas. Music a bonus.

United KingdomOur room was nicely decorated but the bathroom fittings were a bit tired. This was acceptable to us as we liked the age of the building and the fact that reburbishment of the hotel was ongoing. The food was of a poor standard on the Saturday night, we did not purchase the advance package so paid the full price on the night. The package price for food is very reasonable so presumably it is being produced on a tight budget but is not up to standard if you are paying the full price i.e. starter £8, meal £14 and dessert £8 or three courses for £30 ????
Thought the refurbishment of the downstairs areas was excellent and also the staircase, looked really lovely. Breakfast was really good.
