How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Pillows were a little hard, so I would say alternatives should maybe made available. Pool area and changing rooms could do with being checked for cleanliness a bit more often. As an extra note Please look out for the steps could be slippery although hand holds are there.
The hotel is a lovely building. The room was very clean and well stocked. The staff were great and all were welcoming and friendly. The food was lovely with lots of flavour.

Room rather cold and every extra chargeable. Yes, the description on Booking.com said so, but there was a tightwad feel to things. And if I have to pay for the spa, why can't I charge it to to my room bill? I'm not carrying cash/cards around in the hotel. And wifi very rocky, even when I tried to pay for it.

The breakfast wasn’t great for vegans. The gym and pool needed some tlc. They did say they were getting a referb… I’d love to go back once it’s completed.
I had a super comfortable bed and I love the historical aesthetic

Great location, we had a room upgrade, which was good. Food is good, although a bit too salty for my liking, but acceptable. Would definitely recommend.

Was disappointed that wanted extra money to use swimming pool. Also evening meal says from 6pm to 9pm, however apparently you have to book your time. So if going to theatre I suggest you ring hotel before go to book your dinner for 6pm. Earliest slot we could get was 6.30pm so had to rush a 3 course meal down us in 45 minutes. Hotel wasn't interested that we needed to be at theatre for 7.30pm.
Hotel very grand, excellent situation. Good food.

We arrived early and booked the car in early via the booking in screen. The staff were a bit vague on costings.
We got a good price and although a compact room it was suitable. The location was perfect.

The beds are really uncomfortable, they didn't clean our room we stayed for 3 nights, no free WiFi.

Lift is a bit antiquated and slow.
Location great, safe and clean. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice and fresh. Room very clean and was particularly impressed to see a member of staff cleaning all the door windows.

The room I stayed at was a little small, but it was completely fine by my partner and I for a short stay. One thing I'll say is the rooms can be quite far from the main lobby area, and take a short while to get to. That's something to bear with but they do also have access for those less able. We also unfortunately weren't able to get rooms close to each other as a large group but that was to be expected from booking late.
This was the perfect place for my friends and I to come for a short trip. The hotel is in an excellent location, and the value for money is perfect. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable, and has everything you need from a hotel. The lobby area is spectacular with the place really living up to it's name! One thing I particularly liked was that the hotel provided a hair dryer and fan. Not only was the cleanliness of the room a very good standard, but the public areas were also very clean and I had no issue walking through with just socks on (should have taken another pair of shoes!)

Room was lovely. My mother in law booked an identical priced room and was MUCH bigger. Though in fairness ours was fine for the price. Staff were professional and kind. Outside area drastically improved since last visit.

There was nothing that I didn't like apart from the memories of working there myself the money was appalling.
