Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaNothing really.
John is such a fabulous host. Welcomed us warmly, gave us lots of tips and information to help make our stay great. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. Johns place is in a great location, within walking distance of the main part of Derry. We really appreciate how John went out of his way to make our stay so memorable.

Very handy location to explore derry or to get the train to explore other areas. Friendly host, could even leave my bags for a few hours after the official check out. Also very practical that there was a fridge and kitchen that could be used.

JapanI had a little trouble trying to get information on the best way to arrive by bus. Eventually I worked out that if coming from Donegal the expressway.ie website is the best place to find bus info 😊
The location was fantastic and the place very clean and comfortable. Although an uphill walk from the bus station, the route is right through the heart of the city so it's actually very enjoyable if you take it slow. A great explanation of what to do in town including a fantastic recommendation for a pub with trad music (Peader O'Donnells). Top tip - give yourself at least two nights in this beautiful and interesting town preferably more. One night was not nearly enough.

CanadaI was on the second storey up one flight of stairs. John helped me with my luggage, but there is a third floor. It wasn’t a problem for me, but it might be for others. We were free to use the kitchen, we were on our own. I found the kitchen needed a thorough cleaning.
it was a quiet neighbourhood with a few shops and pubs nearby. Down the hill was the river Foyle where are you could walk along to go to town or the other way just for a walk. Bishop’s Gate with all its history was nearby. I walked from the bus station, and easily into the centre of the city the next day. The owner accommodated my early arrival, which I very much appreciated.

United KingdomLocation is at the top of hill, although everywhere in Derry seems to be.
Essentially Mountjoy House is a self catering establishment where you have your own room and downstairs there is a communal kitchen, dining room and lounge. Location is great, 15mins walk from station and 5mins from city walls.

United KingdomConsidering it was a shared bathroom and no full English breakfast you could argue it wasnt great value for money, but to be fair the room was spacious and comfy, the area is quite expensive for hotels/BBs anyway.
Convenient for where I had to be (bus station for airport bus) and well priced. Help yourself continental breakfast was all I needed. It all did the job nicely. Spacious room, comfy bed.

United KingdomMy experience at Mountjoy was favourable, to say the least. The heating of rooms, kitchen and amenities was excellent. Guests are able to activate the radiators from an access point. WiFi was reliable and fast. An added request was honoured: my clothes were washed and dried by the host. John is an excellent welcoming and caring host whom I could reach by cellphone when needed.

IrelandWhile the bedrooms were warm and cosy the corridors were a good bit cooler. As long as you were prepared for it it wasn’t a bother.
The location couldn’t be more central to such a historic location. John welcomed me warmly and gave a great tour of the facilities making me feel at home instantly after a long journey on a blustery and dark November evening. The shower head in the bathroom lights up with multicolored lights when you turn it on. An interesting touch to be sure. The bedroom I stayed in appeared recently done up. I was allowed to park my car on the on-street parking well after check out time with no issues from the hosts.
