How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Dessert and Viennoiserie section in the breakfast was poor. However, there were many other options in food and a kitchen making you several egg dishes.
Strongly suggested for a stay in the neighborhood! Tube station close to the hotel, very clean and large rooms, happy and polite staff.

The staff at this hotel are AMAZING. Everybody was so kind and helpful and they made my partner and I feel so welcome! Such wonderful facilities and excellent room service :)

Tried to order a drink and told atleast 10 mins because they were doing cocktails. The bar wasn't even full. Only wanted 2 beers and a soft drink. We left and went across the road.
Hotel was spotlessly clean. Staff very helpful. Good location.

My husband said some of the carpet in the room was sticky.
Wonderful friendly staff, very helpful at all points of our stay. I was on crutches and found everything very accessible. The room was great, lovely products, plus had the best sleeps in the super comfy bed. The bathroom underfloor heating was delightful. Liked the downstairs cafe bar area - nice design and good coffee. Location was excellent, so near Old Street tube and good buses. Easy to get a taxi or Uber too. Didn’t have time to use the pool or spa - next time! We would stay again. Thank you!

The queen bed felt a bit small for our liking. And we experienced a quite slow table cleaning during peak times at breakfast.
We enjoyed the sky-high room with a view and its spacious bathroom. We loved the vast breakfast selection and the nearby transport offers like tube, bus and taxi.

This is our second time staying at the Montcalm in 2 months! The staff are super friendly and go above and beyond to ensure your stay is delightful. The rooms are clean and spacious, the breakfast is great and the spa facilities are fantastic!

We ate in Marlowe's bar/ restaurant on the Saturday night and it was not great. I had the impression that the bar staff didn't see it as their job to take food orders. We were just dismissively told to sit anywhere we liked. We were not given a menu or salt and pepper for the table - I had to hunt them down. No one came to take our order so I went up to order at the bar. If it is bar service only then no one told us that when we arrived. Certainly no one apologised for the fact that I had to go up and order which given the prices (twice as much for my squid dish as at Alchemist across the road), was a bit surprising. There were only about 4 occupied tables in the entire bar so it was not like they were rushed off their feet. Food was not great - I had squid, truffle chips and what appeared to be a bagged supermarket salad. My daughter's sourdough pizza was really good though. The service and food on Saturday night was definitely the only weak point in what was otherwise an excellent stay
The spa was nice and good value. The breakfast was really good. Freshly cooked avocado toast etc a bonus. Check in very quick and efficient. I especially liked the free water refills available in the corridor, that was an excellent touch.

Lighting in the room was awful. No electrical outlet in the bathroom, making it difficult to dry and style my hair.

The only thing I liked less was the fact that you couldn't open a window in the room, was a little stuffy for me.
the service was the most attentive I have ever experienced, the staff were constantly there to ask if I need anything, breakfast was divine and altogether a great experience. Room and bed were extremely comfortable.

There was drink bar in hotel room, but it cools only around 16-17 degrees. It would be better to have bar that cools at lower temperature.
Everything is comfortable. Tasty breakfast. Great location.
