Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaOnly downside is that, compared to other hotels of a similar price range, the facilities are limited. No pool, spa, gym, etc. The restaurant also doesn't cater to vegans (though the afternoon tea does - which was excellent.) Other aspects of the house and grounds more than made up for it, imho, but if you're the kind of person who enjoys extensive facilities then it'll be a drawback.
Food at the hotel was exceptional - breakfast was unusual in that it was served to the room in a hamper but full of so many goodies, each more delicious than the last. We managed to make breakfast and lunch out of it for two people each day with plenty left over to take home as well. House was magnificent and grounds - which you are allowed to access for free and after hours as a guest - are truly magnificent. Would 100% visit again.

United KingdomNothing - don't be put off by the breakfast hamper alternative to a breakfast in the restaurant (which is offered on days when the restaurant doesn't open in the morning?) - its beautifully presented and very special! This hotel is considerably more expensive than our usual choices but it is so luxurious and unique that it always feels like money well spent
This is a quite extraordinary place to stay - set in the beautiful gardens that you have virtually to yourself in the evening after visitors have left - we timed our stay to coincide with a music and food evening in the gardens - magical The staff are all very helpful and friendly - genuinely interested in the guests and their back stories

United KingdomOnly minor thing for me and this is being exceptionally picky, I found the pillows a bit to soft so would suggest having a bit of choice in the room.
The hotel was fantastic and dinner spectacular, I would strongly recommend it for anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion

United Kingdomoperating the TV was beyond complicated - in the end gave up. overpriced drinks in the bar - £14 for a single measure of standard port.
Superb room decorated with exquisite soft furnishings, beautiful spacious bathroom with shower and free standing bath - all spotlessly clean. Generous selection of toiletries - attention to detail was perfect. Breakfast exceeded our expectation - perfectly portioned servings from cured meats, porridge, croissants, fruit, yogurt & beautifully presented cooked breakfast to finish. Faultless.

United KingdomThe only downside which did not impact us but means we could not return with some friends is that due to the age and historic nature of the property it is not accessible for people in wheelchairs.
Beautifully restored property set in amazing gardens and surrounds. The staff were always polite and friendly and it was a very relaxing experience. The meals were wonderful.

United KingdomIf I had to find something I'd say the room was very hot. But the visit was during the heat wave and the room had large windows to two directions (which I loved!) so I guess only aircon would've been able to keep the room cooler.
Everything about the place was absolutely stunning! The room was the best I've ever seen, the surroundings beautiful and service unbelievably good. We felt so well looked after throughout the stay that I'd love to visit Leonardslee again. There's also so much to see in the area.

United KingdomCouldnt sufficiently open windows in the bedroom making it a stuffy and uncomfortable nights sleep. The fan was near useless. For the price, would have expected breakfast to be included and not an additional item.
