Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAlthough the room was large (executive king room no.0410),it was also tired, 2 handles on wardrobe door and drawer door falling off, television remote had a mind of its own,Base of shower tray extremely slippy no anti-slip matt in toilet.
Hotel location was excellent, staff were very pleasant and attentive throughout. breakfast was first class. Large and very comfortable bed. Very clean and tidy Hotel, parking cost £12 per night (24hours), that seems to be reasonable for Chester.

United KingdomWe missed the Victorian feel of the old railway hotel but I'm sure it will be lovely when the renovations are finished.
Great value rooms especially as we stayed on the May bank holiday weekend. The lower priced rooms were maybe because there were building works going on in the old part of the hotel but that didn't disrupt our stay. Our room in the modern block was spacious and comfortable with good views over the city from the 7th floor. Great bathroom too, both bath and shower. Good free coffee in the reception area. We didn't eat in the hotel but the location was close to both the lovely city centre and the station where we could easily catch a bus to the zoo.

United KingdomWith the work going on in the hotel. The trek to the room was not good, up to floor 2 to walk through several corridors, then walk down to floor one. Nothing was well signposted. The bar area, which I assume was temporary, was cramped and canteen style.
The location was really good, added bonus a big carpark on the doorstep. The room was bright and comfortable. The lady on reception was friendly and helpful.

United KingdomThe room was very warm even when turning down the thermostat. A radiator outside the room was on constantly while we stayed there. Must cost a fortune if this is through out the hotel.
Proximity to the station.

United KingdomThought the service in the restaurant at dinner very poor. I would recommend due to the number of errors made with orders on tables around us that the waiting on staff go back ro writing down orders instead if trying to remember them. One of our meals was not hot. Someone on the next table got mains before their starters. Another table had to remind the asitress they had not had dessert they had ordered. It was disappointing especially as the restaurant was not that busy.
We checked in early unexpectedly after lovely man on reception helped us pay for car parking. All staff on reception that we encountered were lovely

United KingdomI'm happy with the hotel.
The Hotel is situated across the road from the railway station and has ample parking. Parking is on the expensive side but the site is secure. The hotel is currently undergoing a major refurbishment but despite this are still operating as normal as they can be. A good clean hotel with friendly staff. Breakfast is serve yourself and has everything you need.

United KingdomRefurbishment going on, so couldn't go to main reception, which was what drew my eye to this hotel. Pillows a bit lumpy, but bed very comfortable.
Not too far from centre. Ideal for someone travelling by train. Friendly staff, especially bar staff.

AustraliaSome staff need to be more welcoming & cheerful to new guests. Same with some bar staff The room was too small for a double bed
The room we had was exceptionally small. It was in the corner of the building and to get to one side of the bed meant you had to navigate a small gap between the bed & the wall and the bed and the cupboard. Some lights were not working (one was fixed during our stay) The bathroom exhaust fan turned on when you just walked past the door so it had to be shut all the time to reduce the noise of the fan. The bed itself was very comfortable. The breakfast was also great. The staff - The one we had for checking wasn't that friendly. There was a girl also at reception who was serving another customer, was bubbly and cheerful. The bar staff could also take a lesson in Customer Service.... The position of the Hotel was good being only a 15min walk into the town area.

United KingdomMay just be an off day however some of the staff on reception and in the restaurant seemed to be un-interested and sometimes quite rude when asked a question which made us feel like an inconvenience.
Accommodation was lovely and as described. One of my guests sleep with a sleep apnea machine however there were no plugs near enough to the bed, this was quickly fixed with an extension lead provided by the reception however the hotel could benefit from plugs closer to the bed.
