Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

United StatesIf one is really expecting fitness amenities / gym (I generally *really* wanted a hotel gym while traveling before work) - the facility hours were odd (gym opened at 9 AM with no obvious reason for that) and the facility area was so small and ill equipped that it really only works if you want access to a treadmill or elliptical.) Weights not very heavy and there’s no room at all on the floor to stand / workout. (You really can only lie on the one bench).
The room was so beautiful and comfortable. I loved the decor, set up and building. Other guests were wonderful / polite, there was safe / easy access to transport, the stay was very quiet, and breakfast was lovely.

United StatesLocation isn't perfect but a 15 minute walk into Docklands and part of the city where you can get to everywhere else. I wouldn't walk there alone at night.
Each room is unique, mine had a staircase with a loft style bedroom, which may not be for everyone but I found very cool. The bathroom included a large soaking tub which was needed after a work conference. The staff is incredibly friendly and willing to help wherever they can.

GermanyI guess a window that you can actually open, would be great..... Sometimes the matrasses should be changed (I think they weren't that new). Warm water took ages to come through.
We really liked the location, which was very close to the train station. The room was nice, with a lovely atmosphere. There was a lovely bathroom and the cute "fake" digital fireplace on the wall in the bedroom.

The pictures online looked great but I was a tad concerned about the location. These fears were unjustified, the area is fine and the tube (DLR) is a 2 minute walk away (excellent links to Canary Wharf and The Excel Center).

FinlandThe heavy use of fragrances in a hotel can be a problem if you have a low tolerance for scents. Room cleaning could have been more consistent, it's always nice to have the extra roll of toilet paper just in case. Check-out was quite short, and the usual courtesies of the reception staff were not exchanged. As for the location, the surprise was crossing the highway along a single overpass and walking between the construction site and the highway in the direction of Canary Wharf.
Breakfast was tasty and plentiful enough for a small hotel. Beds and pillows were exceptionally good, the location was quite peaceful and the hotel was well kept. There were several tube and bus lines nearby and the staff was friendly.

United KingdomLovely friendly, welcoming reception team, the hotel was beautiful and smelled amazing ! we reserved the hexagonal room which was really gorgeous, lovely big comfy bed, great shower and very roomy !, the location of the hotel is perfect, just a short walk along to canary Wharf, , we didn't eat in the hotel as we had made other arrangements in Central London, however, we did have a few drinks in the bar one evening which was very relaxing and served to us by a very lovely lady ! Thanks to the really pleasant staff, we will definitely stay here again
