The room was a little cold and the shower was a bit awkward and not great even when I did get it to work. The eggs for breakfast are as fresh as you could want from their own chickens but that does mean a chorus at 4am! However I did get back to sleep and they did provide complimentary earplugs.

Coast to coast day 11. This was a really friendly and quite quirky place to stay. The food and the service were amazing, both for dinner and breakfast. Food was the best I had throughout the walk. I loved the little extra touches like the bread and cheese and the Eccles cake in the room.

The standard of furnishing and fittings could do with a re-fresh and would greatly improve things without detracting from it's quirky character and feel (shabby chic?). The age and nature of the building is always going to dictate what the owners can do, but some attention to to these areas would help widen it's appeal.

The breakfast and evening meal were both excellent. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the historic building and it's location were both a big plus. The welcoming Bread, cheese and cake in the room was a nice touch.

Very little was wrong in light of my positive comments, however whilst the rooms were clean there were some of the maintenance issues in my room.

This is a genuine 18th century inn that retains its atmosphere. It is not luxurious or plastic in any way and inside you can smell the woodsmoke from the open log fires. The hospitality from the owners was great and the food offered was generous and excellent. The bar has settles and both hand pulled real ales as well as modern beers. The rooms are simple but are en suite with a coffee machine and a welcome tray of cheese and cakes. This is one for the connoisseur of tradition and is not in any way a modern beige corporate hotel. I loved it!

Would have preferred a kettle instead of a coffee machine in room. Some of the areas were gloomy (dark ceilings) and would benefit from being refreshed.

Great hospitable people, cosy pub with open fires, excellent food and very dog friendly.

This being constructive criticism, was alarmed by the 2bottles on my bedside table with glasses on not at all knowing what it was or labelled, and what was a lovely touch cake had it not been rock hard and not knowing how long it had been there if I had been a child or someone with issues drinking something which we had no idea what it was was worrying.also not a great lover of the coffee machine but that a personal choice water was in it again I had no idea how long that water had been in it, when asked if they had a spare kettle I was asked did I know how to use the coffee machine to get hot water out of.they kindly filled my flask with hot water .these comments to not reflect the facts a really special place.

Lovely and peaceful great location very quaint cosy ,the staff I did meet were so helpful . comfy room great size bathroom
